RadioCanadas team in Toronto is looking for an economic reporter with creativity critical thinking and strong initiative. Were seeking someone who can analyze a wide range of economic topics and present their work in an innovative digital format whether in text audio or video.
In this role you will produce content tied to daily economic news as well as original stories for digital platforms. Youll be expected to simplify complex concepts and provide clear explanations to help our audience better understand the impact of various economic events.
You remain calm in the face of uncertainty and rapidly changing market conditions. You work to confirm and interpret constantly evolving news. Youre always looking for ways to improve our economic coverage to meet the changing needs of our audience.
Your profile:
University degree in journalism or equivalent with at least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience in economic journalism
Ability to generate pitch and produce strong story ideas primarily for digital platforms
Strong ability to build connections within the business community
Proven professional ethics in diverse team environments
Advanced knowledge of economic current affairs audience expectations and industry trends
Experience in validating editing factchecking and formatting economic news content
Skills in mathematics and data analysis are an asset
Ability to write news stories based on interviews or livestreamed events filling in gaps as needed
Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities across all RadioCanada platforms
Strong journalistic judgment and ability to work effectively under pressure in a newsroom environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong team spirit
Ability to develop original proactive journalism
A valid drivers licence and a driving record that meets CBC/RadioCanadas minimum insurance requirements are assets
Flexibility to work various shifts including early mornings evenings and weekends
Knowledge of audio and video editing software is an asset
