TITLE: CustodianWORK HOURS: 12:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m. while school is in session / 6:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m. during school breaks and over the summerSUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principals School Business Manager and the Head Custodian the Custodian is responsible for providing custodial services at an assigned site(s) ensuring an attractive sanitary and safe environment for students staff and visitors by performing various special cleaning operations and assisting with the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events. Workload is subject to seasonal fluctuations throughout the year. Employee may be required to work evenings weekends and emergency situations outside of normal working DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Ensures for the safety cleanliness maintenance and repair of School District buildings asassignedProvides general preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs that do not requireservices of a licensed professionalReports vandalism unsecured buildings or equipment malfunctionsResponsible for oversight and ensuring proper working condition of the buildings heating ventilation and air conditioning equipmentProvides services and sets up equipment and rooms for meetings events and extracurricular activitiesMaintains all equipment and tools in working conditionKeep supervisor informed as to needed repairs or problemsReceives deliveries to building and makes deliveries when assignedReviews maintains or updates Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)Dry mops mops and wet washes floors cleans and/or polishes floorsScrubs and polishes floors with appropriate equipment when assignedVacuums spot cleans or shampoos carpets with appropriate equipment when assignedCleans vertical and horizontal surfaces that collects dustCollects and transports refuse cleans refuse containers places refuse in appropriate disposal containersCleans windows doors lights and wallsCleans window frames door frames and other high places; using ladder when necessaryCleans Mens and Ladies rooms washes sinks and other plumbing fixtures fills receptacles with soap paper towels and tissues as neededCleans cafeteria and kitchens and removes rubbish during/after mealsDusts cleans and polishes furnitureUtilizes detergents disinfectants polishes finishes polishes etcMoves furniture tables and supplies etcResponsible for touch up paintingCleans HVAC vents as neededChanges light bulbs and fuses as neededMaintains and sweeps outdoor grounds including entranceways stairs sidewalks and walkwaysResponsible for snow/ice removal and salting/sanding of entranceways stairs sidewalks and walkways including times prior to and after school dayResponsible for building checks and addressing emergencies during and outside of normal working hoursPerform similar or related duties as assigned or as situation dictates MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and ExperienceHigh school graduate with two to three years of related janitorial or custodial experience strongly preferred. Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of the use of safety devices and protective equipment; use of safe practices and methods in the operation of supplies and equipment; correcting any conditions within a building or grounds that may be hazardous and reporting hazards to supervisor; building systems and repairs; inventory control; and recordkeeping techniques; Skillsbased competencies include managing and coordinating daytoday custodial service operations at assigned school site(s); effective communication skills; and operation of custodian equipment and competencies include planning and organizing all aspects of custodial duties; analyzing situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action; working independently with little direction; comprehending instructions on labels of equipment and cleaning supplies; preparing for and completing assignments in a proactive and timely manner; coordinating work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency; willing and able to learn new routines procedures and develop new skills; and respectful in dealings with DEMANDS:While performing the duties of the job employee may be required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; position oneself to use a variety of equipment and tools; move heavy objects up to and over 50 pounds; and operate custodial tools and equipment.
