Overview:
Product Engineering Lab Test Technician is responsible for providing testing and supporting development of wire and cable harness systems material development supplier development and third party testing for Prysmian Group facilities.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for understanding and performing all tasks and responsibilities according to the specific Job Safety Practices (JSP) safety established for this job.
- Responsible for safety and housekeeping procedures and for maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Responsible for adhering to all Prysmian Group health safety and environmental policies and regulations including our hazardous waste handling if designated and trained to do so.
- Primary duties
- Review and determine testing need for programs. Setup and perform program testing to the specification and product/program prints.
- Material testing cable testing capability studies for critical characteristics
- Document testing procedures and results in various formats (excel word) within technical language of the specification.
- Assists with risk analysis of new design or process via testing and observations during testing
- Assists with the designs and acquisition of testing fixtures and new testing equipment to support new or modified program test criteria.
- Assists with prototype building of wire and cable (prototype line) and select wire harness. Ability to assist with new and/or modified laboratory equipment for prototype builds.
- Provides testing technical support in cross functional teams as required.
- Responsible for initiating actions to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities identifying and recording problems relating to product quality processes and quality systems as well as controlling further processing or delivery of nonconforming product
- Develops and maintains procedures for operation of laboratory facility
- Secondary duties
- Understanding and operation of mechanical electrical chemical and analytical equipment with limited support interfacing. Examples: Instron Dielectric chambers Flex chambers Thermal Shock chambers Thermal chambers Chemical Titrations Vibration Chambers.
- Maintain test equipment; perform and/or coordinate troubleshooting to determine cause of failure and repairs.
- Designs and/or assists with development of the product design and functionality of products costs avoidance program cost reduction programs process and product improvement programs within schedule and budget parameters
- Provides support to manufacturing to ensure product is fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality of the design
- Interfaces with others in the organization and customers to jointly determine customer needs and solutions; such as samples datasheets PPAPs IMDS

- Ability to plan and prioritize tasks and activities with the capability of making plan adjustments spontaneously to maximize safety quality and machine efficiency
- Able to work independently or collaborate with other Team Members as necessary to balance workload
- Excellent testing equipment understanding and practical application
- Mechanical and electrical principle understanding and practical application physical science and math understanding and practical application
- In some cases specified material handlers will be designated to handle hazardous waste material. These individuals will receive annual training to supplement their normal job duties to meet all guideline in handling of this material.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED minimum STEM knowledge including basic physics electric circuits chemistry mathematics (algebra) Good reading and listening skills Knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word software with focus on Excel Prefer experience in CAD System automation controls database programming
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Corrected vision to 20/20 being able to clearly see objects at long or short distances and be able to see details in small objects and read fine print
- Able to visually distinguish colors accurately
- Occasional manual lifting up to 50 pounds
- Frequent manually push/pull scoot slide rotate or roll product or objects that are medium to large size and of various weights short distances usually on flat surfaces but occasionally on sloped surfaces in order to place or reposition product or objects.
- Able to lift and carry by hand various tools materials containers usually small to moderate in size
- Active walking with irregular periods of standing and infrequent sitting or leaning
- Frequent tasks involving reaching and/or gripping with varied personal physical exertion/force requirements for each task.
- Able to react quickly to changing circumstances and move with safe speed and agility from one position or location to another
- Wear all Personal Protective Equipment required for job duties and required tasks
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Frequent tasks involving walking standing squatting and bending are required
- Frequent use of manual material handling equipment such as dollies carts and pallet jacks to push pull and/or move heavy loads short distances
- Work overtime hours as scheduled. Extra or extended shifts may be required daily or weekly
