Job Description
Christa McAuliffe Charter School seeks a Special Education Coordinator experienced at improving student service program operations writing strong IEPs and building capacity in special education teachers and IAs. The position also requires a unique balance of technical and interpersonal skills: an individual who is extremely organized and detailoriented and who also builds strong relationships with a variety of constituents. We are one of 155 EL Education (EL) schools nationwide and one of nine EL schools in Massachusetts. EL is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing network schools with a highlyrespected model of comprehensive school reform with an emphasis on high achievement through active learning character growth and IS EL EDUCATIONEL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) is a national school reform organization operating in 165 schools in 30 states and reaching over 45000 students. EL partners with schools to improve student achievement through an inquiry and projectbased approach. EL schools inspire the motivation to learn engage teachers and students in new levels of focus and effort and transform schools into places where students and adults become leaders of their own learning. Position OverviewMcAuliffes Special Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating programs that provide educational assistance to scholars with identified disabilities (cognitive psychological learning behavioral or physical). The primary function of the position is to facilitate the special education processes that ensure the school maximizes the growth potential of students with exceptional learning needs. The Special Education Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Services. Special Education Coordinator Qualifications** Education Licensure and Employment History Masters degree and special education licensure Experience as a team chair (at least 1 year) or case manager (at least 3 years)** Philosophical Alignment: Demonstrated passion for educating middle school students Belief in and commitment to the schools Expeditionary Learning mission** Experiences: Coordinating and managing special education service delivery. Building partnerships with families and involving families as members of the IEP / 504 Team. Facilitating or participating in annual IEP meetings with highly involved families and advocates.** Technical Knowledge & Skills Include: Indepth knowledge of IDEA and 504 laws and associated regulations processes and procedures. Writing IEPs and 504 plans. Use of ESped Google Docs platform and Excel/Google Sheets. Aptitude for building systems dependent on input from multiple constituents and with rigid timelines Setting and focusing longterm shortterm and daily priorities while minimizing distractions. Exemplary organizational skills and detailoriented tendencies.** Interpersonal Strengths Include: Relationshipbuilding with a wide variety of constituents: colleagues parents advocates and scholars. Maintaining a calm presence during stressful situations. Negotiation skills which balance getting students needs met limit setting and creative resolutions.
