The Health Law Partnership (HeLP) is an interdisciplinary community collaboration among the Atlanta Legal Aid Society Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta Inc. and Georgia State University College of Law to improve the health and well being of lowincome families and their children who are patients at Childrens hospitals. A holistic set of services to address the multiple determinants of childrens health.

The HeLP Legal Services Clinic at the College of Law the professional graduate education component of HeLP seeks to employ a Professor of Practice to collaborate with existing clinic faculty in delivering interdisciplinary education to law students professional students enrolled in graduate programs in medicine nursing public health and social work and to healthcare professionals working at Childrens hospitals.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

Assist with teaching the classroom component of the HeLP Legal Services Clinic including training regarding the laws regulations and the social economic and environmental factors that impact health and the role such factors play in contributing to health disparities and health inequity. Will utilize clinical pedagogy in teaching and participate in continuing education on clinical pedagogy.

Work with/supervise law students and other professional graduate level students on client legal cases including but not limited to: client intake case consultations court preparation and court proceedings and on educational/training programming associated with HeLP.

Represent clients in a variety of civil legal problems affecting childrens health including addressing poor housing conditions access to public benefits family stability access to healthcare obtaining disability benefits and accessing a free and appropriate public education. Will be responsible for handling all clinic cases during the summer.

Assist in the documentation of cases and outcomes of cases handled by the HeLP clinic.

Engage in the ongoing development of the HeLP partner relationship by attending regular partner meetings and advisory council meetings actively participate in partnership working groups and collaborations and attend Legal Aid Case Acceptance Meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Juris Doctor or Doctoral in Law and five years of related experience.

Membership in the State Bar of Georgia

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a law degree from an ABAaccredited law school be licensed to practice law in Georgia and have at least three (3) years of legal experience. Other highly desirable attributes include teaching experience or professional experience in a complementary field such as nursing public health or social work. Proficiency in Spanish is beneficial.
