Job Summary:
To perform diversified production welding operations using welding processes on a variety of metal parts and gauges of materials ensuring the weld is fully penetrated and smooth. May be required to assist higher and lower grade Welders.
Job Responsibilities:
- To perform fusion welding processes such as solder tungsten inert gas spot seam and orbital to weld a variety of metal alloy parts and assemblies including carbon steel stainless steel Inconel magnesium and titanium. Works from shop routers specifications and standard operation methods.
- Sets up parts and operates various welding equipment to weld all types and gauges of materials with or without fixtures. Inputs sequence of events in work center console.
- Improvises holding and locating devices to clamp and align parts and assemblies. Prepares material for welding operations by cleaning forming and positioning a variety of parts tubes and assemblies. Determines welding sequence to minimize internal stress warping contraction or expansion. Exercises close mental and visual attention to avoid welding defects such as excessive penetration oxidation porosity cracks or improper bead contour.
- Performs operations necessary to smooth and finish welded parts and assemblies.
- Grinds and smooths welded parts to appearance specifications.
- Performs leak tests on welded parts and assemblies.
- A check joins straightens or hand forms detail and welded assemblies in accordance with appropriate check fixtures specifications oral and written instructions.
- May be required to operate power machines such as band saws drill presses sandblasting and other equipment as required.
- Selects proper heating coil and holding fixtures adjust time cycle voltage current and filament voltage on heater. Regulates flow of coolant and prepares quenching medias.
- Prepares and applies flux to mating parts inserting silver solder rings as required.
- Immerses all parts in quenching media to obtain desired characteristics.
- Removes excess flux and silver solder from parts.
- Assemble parts for welding.
- Responsible for quality of own work.
- Performs other duties as required
Education:
Must have a high school diploma an equivalent certificate or a bronze level WorkKeys certification. Must be able to obtain three (3) tig weld certifications of the employees choosing and with supervisions approval within a period of nine (9) months of entering the classification. Must pass written welding exam and an annual eye exam.
Experience:
Minimum three years of tig welding experience required (experience may include holding Production Welder C classification) without a Technical School Certification or a minimum of one year experience required with a Technical School Certification. Diversified production and tack welding brazing spot seam soldering and flame heat treating experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to exposure to sparks fumes and heat.
