Headquartered in Olympia Washington the Port of Olympia serves all of Thurston County community as an economic engine a strong community partner and a responsible environmental steward. Olympia is home to a wide variety of industries including state government health care retail military education construction farming fishing and logging and has an active arts community.

The region has a wide array of public parks and nature conservation areas. Majestic Mount Rainier and the rugged Cascade Mountains are nearby to the east while the Pacific Coast is just an hours drive to the west. Located on Budd Inlet the southernmost point of Puget Sound the area offers significant opportunities for a diversity of water enthusiasts.

The Organization
Established in 1922 the Port serves the community by promoting trade supporting familywage jobs and improving the environment. Today more than 5000 jobs and nearly $715.5 million in economic activity in Thurston County depend on the Port of Olympia. The Port of Olympia is governed by an elected Commission which sets policies and strategic direction for the organization. The Commission appoints the Ports Executive Director who is responsible for the ongoing management of the Ports staff operations budget enterprises and facilities. The Port of Olympia operates with 51 FTEs across multiple departments and four business units which include:
  1. Marine Terminal
  2. Airport
  3. Swantown Marina and Boatworks
  4. Real Estate

The Position
Under direct or general supervision individuals perform various maintenance and/or landscaping duties at multiple Port of Olympia locations. This fivemonth temporary position will work a flexible 40hour work week. Locations include Olympia Regional Airport Commerce Business Center (CBC) Cleanwater Centre and New Market Industrial Campus (NMIC) properties.

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Be a selfstarter this quality is more important than overall experience and skill level. The necessary training will be provided to anyone who regularly maintains a motivated and positive attitude.
  • Must be punctual flexible reliable and responsible.
  • Must demonstrate basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Must possess a strong sense of customer service.
  • Must understand and embrace the importance of workplace safety adhering to all Port policies with a keen ability to take instruction and deliver results.
  • Must be able to work effectively and flexibly as an integral member of the team.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily perform essential maintenance and groundskeeping projects.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in operating the necessary equipment: electric gas diesel and various hand/power tools.
  • Must be able to accept work assignments in all types of weather with medium to heavy work requiring prolonged or repeated standing walking climbing stooping kneeling crouching and lifting 30 to 50 lbs.
  • Must maintain the level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the positions essential functions
