Job Description

Position Summary:

The Kitchen Manager is responsible not only for daily meal preparation and kitchen maintenance but also for guiding youth in developing essential life skills related to nutrition meal planning food safety and budgeting. This position plays a key role in modeling healthy habits and fostering youth independence through handson culinary education and life skill workshops.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements a basic culinary and nutrition education program for shelter residents including ageappropriate lesson healthy eating portion control food safety label reading and balanced meal planning.
  • Facilitates handson kitchenbased life skills sessions with youth including: grocery shopping on a budget meal prep and cooking basics cleaning and kitchen hygiene understanding nutritional information.
  • Collaborates with the clinical team and youth advocates to incorporate cooking and kitchen activities into daily routines or enrichment schedules.
  • Coordinates with case managers or life skills specialists to ensure alignment of foodrelated life skills with individualized service plans.
  • Tracks youth participation and skill progress for documentation and program improvement
  • Responsible for meal preparation in accordance with planned menus and keeping records for Federal School Lunch Program. Meals are defined as Breakfast Lunch Dinner and Snack.
  • Works closely with Youth Advocates for holiday weekend or other special dates to heat premade meals.
  • Assists with menu planning in compliance with USDA guidelines and completion of shopping list. Obtains authorization for purchase orders and shops from list.
  • Completes production records and maintains labels in compliance with National School Lunch Program
  • Maintains pantry freezers and refrigerator in clean and orderly fashion (first in last out).
  • Maintains stock of dry and canned goods to appropriate levels in pantry and cupboards.
  • Keeps kitchen in clean and orderly fashion including mopping kitchen floors as needed.
  • Maintains kitchen in accordance with Health Codes.
  • Participates in agency performance quality improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:


Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School education or equivalent with demonstrated ability to cook for a large group. Certification in nutrition preferred.
  • Must be Servsafe certified.
  • Pass a drug screen and maintain a current TB card.
  • Must have a current Arkansas Drivers license and insurable under OCYFSs commercial vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must receive child maltreatment clearance through the Arkansas Child Maltreatment Central Registry.
  • Must receive adult maltreatment clearance through Arkansas Protective ServicesAdult Maltreatment Central Registry.
  • Must receive Arkansas State Police criminal background clearance as mandated by Arkansas Department of Human Services Minimum Licensing Standards for Child Welfare Agencies.
