Job Description

Job Responsibilities

This is an Internal Posting only current SCDC employees will be considered.

Plans & directs the activities of divisions and operational units reporting to them. Directly supervises and provides oversight to the chief of investigative regions chief of special investigations chief of administration training & special projects. Serves as the assistant liaison with all outside law enforcement agencies. Responsible for assisting the inspector general with implementation review and approval of all MOUs and contracts involving OIG. Assists OIG and/or deputy directors and other agency managers with any special projects and outside emergencies.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Assists with the operations and management of the Office of Inspector General including participating in the Executive Staff meetings in the absence of the Inspector General. Responsible for overall operation administration and management of the Office of Inspector General. Formulates plans and establishes guidance and direction for administration operation training employment maintenance supply and safety of the Division programs resources activities criminal investigations administrative investigations and related education and awareness programs. Responsible for management and submitting final summary reports for investigative cases conducted under the auspices of the South Carolina Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General including complaints concerning incidents of possible misconduct malfeasance or violations of laws rules or regulations by any officer employee or the public. Oversee the final summary reports to include documentation of allegations investigative steps taken evidence and findings for review by appropriate authority for appropriate action.
  • Assists Supervisors in development of investigative plans; provides guidance and resolution of issues that arise during investigations; prepares and assists other staff in research. Interviews subjects eyewitnesses and various other parties regarding information to gather verify and/or corroborate evidence as required; analyzes documentation and data. Ensures compliance with internal and external reporting and other statutory obligations by maintaining case logs providing input on monthly reports investigative status reports and reviewing responses and other documents stemming from the issuance of founded reports. Assists all law enforcement authorities as needed.
  • To implement Inspector General policies and programs. Provides direction and policy guidance concerning programs plans requirements management and information flow to support executive Organizes law enforcement activities. Develops establishes and controls methods and procedures staff and investigative functions complaint processing records release inquiries and provide assistance and referral services. Maintains liaison with complainants and those seeking information. Determines requesters needs through analysis of information. Establishes Office of Inspector General procedures to receive process refer and manage information resources assets and activities to support operation and management of the Office of Inspector General. Direct and oversees office management. Advises personnel on responsibilities policies services and programs. Conducts and monitors law enforcement and investigative activities supporting South Carolina Department of Corrections administrative and criminal investigations release of investigative records and information and referral services to ensure mission accomplishment.
  • Reviews and evaluates division programs and activities. Reviews and analyzes methods procedures practices processes and systems used to accomplish Office of Inspector General activities and functions. Initiates corrective action. Evaluates effectiveness of Office of Inspector General support and office management. Reviews and evaluates division programs and activities. Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements
A bachelors degree & experience supervising law enforcement personnel at public law enforcement agency.


SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

Will be required to work various hours and will be on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
