Job Description

Out of Scope: Mental Health Counsellor

Probationary: Ongoing (10 month employee based on school calendar) Location Thickwood Heights School

FTE 0.20

Start Date ASAP

Requirements: The ideal candidate would possess the following background philosophy and experience:

  • Master of Psychology Social Work or Counselling with advanced practice in the assessment and treatment of mental emotional and behavioural disorders (or a significant completion of this program).
  • The successful candidate will have specific knowledge and training in school counselling and be able to support regular classroom teachers with specialized strategies in regards to supporting mental health.
  • Providing training and support to teachers for students for student social and emotional development anxiety and instructional approaches to build student resilience and independence is needed.
  • Deliver preventative bestpractice interventions and related psychosocial development programs as approved by the Division.
  • Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to the provision counselling services and learning supports
  • Experience with making referrals for therapeutic support and outside agencies who support students and families is an asset.
  • Track caseload data and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling services learning supports and student responses to interventions and comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to records management
  • Promote family involvement and increase family participation in educational personal social and/or vocational planning for students.
  • Comply with guidelines for Practice including developmental guidance instruction individual student planning responsive services and school/community support systems.
  • Experience working with elementaryaged students with a strong ability to build relationships with Elementary school students.
  • Participate in staff development professional learning communities and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Strong technology skills are required with knowledge of Google Platform applications and PowerSchool an asset.
  • Flexible TEAM player and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Recognize the importance of making a strong positive connection with all students through classroom interactions as well as involvement with students outside the classroom. (ie. clubs and teams)
  • Other dues as assigned by the school principal.
