DEFINITION:
Renders professional medical services in the field of psychiatry.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Positions allocable to this class provide specialized medical services the nature of which requires completion of an approved residency in psychiatry.
Performs medical work in the medical field of psychiatry.
Conducts training or assists in the training of interns and resident physicians.
Consults with staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding care of patients and medical and diagnostic work performed.
Performs or assists in carrying out administrative responsibilities which may include such duties as budget preparation for the section determining equipment and supply needs carrying out personnel functions or developing revising work procedures to expedite work load or improve level of service.
Assists in the planning and direction of health programs in the field of psychiatry.
SELECTIONREQUIREMENTS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in psychiatry.
LICENSE:
**California State Physician and Surgeonslicense authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternate method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
2 - Light - Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
Special Requirement Information:
**To compete in this examination process applicants must have a current active California State Physician and Surgeons license issued by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California. A copy of this required license must be submitted at the time of filing.
NOTE: Candidates who are within six months of completion of residency may compete in the examination process; however final appointment cannot be made until the completion of residency is completed and proof of the required documentation is submitted to the Department of Mental Health Exams Unit.
EXAMINATION CONTENT
This is a noncompetitive examination. This examination is intended to merely qualify applicants. Applicants will be placed on an eligible register without indication of relative standing in the examination.
*Special Credits: Mental Health Psychiatrists working for a facility in the High Desert Health System will receive a $40 per hour per occasion bonus. To qualify for this bonus the psychiatrist must be on-site providing direct patient care AND work either a half shift or a full shift of their permanent assignment. Telehealth or telemedicine services are not eligible for this bonus.
Special Information:
All County workforce members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Successful candidates for this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process. Candidates should not present proof of vaccination until instructed to do so by the hiring department.
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings nights holidays or weekends.

Eligibility Information:
Applications will be processed on an as-receivedbasis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of applicants receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
Applicants will be placed on an eligible list/register without indication of relative standing in the examination. The appointing power may appoint any one of the names on the appropriate list/register except a person without Veterans credit may not be appointed if there are three or more names on the list/register of persons entitled to Veterans credit.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
