Job Description
In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Regional Manager of Quality LongTerm Care and Assisted Living the Quality Resource Coordinator is a contributing member of the Departments Quality Resource Team and will participate in processes that determine both Departmental operations and strategic objectives. To facilitate operationalizing the LongTerm Care Quality Framework the Coordinator may provide coaching and mentoring to LongTerm Care home staff on key quality improvement initiatives (e.g. falls prevention wound care dementia care).
The position is geographically nimble and will work throughout the region and potentially across the Health Authority. Travel is a requirement of the position. Transportation arrangements must meet Island Healths operational requirements in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years recent related experience in LongTerm Care including one (1) years experience in a supervisory or leadership role or an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Knowledge and experience with quality improvement LongTerm Care and/or infection prevention and control preferred. Relevant certification also preferred such as Gerontology Nursing Certificate (GNC) or equivalent Quality Improvement or Change Management certificate. Valid B.C. Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle for businessrelated purposes.

- Knowledge of relevant acts legislation standards and policies governing the operation of LongTerm Care facilities and the quality assurance requirement.
- Knowledge of gerontology geriatrics and the needs of adults living with chronic illness.
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory body and association standards.
- Demonstrated analytical critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated teaching skills using a coaching approach.
- Knowledge of adult education and learning principles.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work under time constraints and prioritize workload effectively.
- Ability to work independently using sound judgment and initiative and to make decisions guided by standards of practice Public Health and WorkSafeBC regulations and Island Health policies and procedures.
- Comprehensive understanding of healthcare technology and work processes.
- Demonstrated commitment to clientfocused services and teamwork.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Superior investigative analytical and creative problemsolving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to teach in both individual and large group settings.
