The Senior Family Services Specialistin the Charlottesville Department of Social Services performs difficult professional work in the support and assistance of agency clients with personal social health and economic needs with casework focused on the multifaceted concerns of families and children in foster care; provides consultation and support on area housing resources and services for child welfare involved families; does related work as required. Primarily and most frequently the work done here is performed independently with diverse functional areas and more specialization and ability to train others. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Social Services Family Services Supervisor.
The preferred hiring range for this position is between $30.69 $37.73 Hourly ($63835.20 $78478.40 Annually).Starting offer is based on applicable education experience and internal equity. Assesses client needs counsels clients prepares in depth social studies in the formulation and delivery and assessment of service plans;
Coordinates specialized and complex departmental service programs such as adoption services etc.;
Coordinates treatment services clinics employment services vocational rehabilitation services etc.;
May make investigations and recommends custody in abuse or foster care cases assesses dysfunctional parties;
Performs work with specific ancillary agencies such as juvenile and domestic relations courts provides expert testimony and recommendations;
Leads the work of or consults with other service unit social workers or program staff;
Supervises graduate level students in their field experience;
Evaluates programs and services rendered to clients;
Represents the department and interprets agency programs to other agencies community groups and associations; develops community resources makes public presentations;
Maintains case records and prepares reports;
Testifies in court proceedings makes recommendations and petitions to legal authorities;
Executes financial documents related to case work;
May be asked to work during emergency operations as outlined in the department continuity of operations plan;
Performs related tasks as required.
Work occurs in an office setting and may also occur in client homes meetings and collaboration in other community agencies and involvement in court hearings. Frequent contacts with individuals families extended families and other stakeholders other professionals and paraprofessionals requiring skill and tact in dealing with sensitive controversial and confidential material. Work may involve threatening and potentially dangerous settings and disturbing circumstances. May be required to be oncall and respond within certain timeframes.
