Job Description

Marion County requires onsite work. Remote work is not available.


The Marion County District Attorneys Office is responsible for seeking justice through:

  • Promoting accountability for criminal offenders.
  • Interpreting enforcing and executing law.
  • Responding to the concerns of victims and the public; and
  • Working cooperatively with members of the justice system.

Wages:
Deputy District Attorney 1: $40.73 $54.60 hr.
Deputy District Attorney2: $51.97 $69.67 hr.

Deputy District Attorney 2
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Conducts all phases of criminal misdemeanor prosecution and some phases of felony prosecution in Circuit Court proceedings on behalf of Marion County.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of a Trial Team Supervisor who assigns work reviews performance and advises on unusual or difficult problems.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of others is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.

In the Deputy District Attorney series this is the journeylevel classification.

Deputy District Attorney 1
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Conducts limited criminal prosecution in Circuit Court proceedings on behalf of Marion County.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of a Trial Team Supervisor who assigns work reviews performance and advises on unusual or difficult problems.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of others is not a responsibility of positions in this class.

Typical Duties Duties include but are not limited to the following

  • Review child support cases and determine appropriate enforcement actions.
  • Communicate with customers and partner agencies regarding child support calculations Oregon Laws/Federal Regulations case status and enforcement activities.
  • Coordinate with staff and investigator on child support enforcement issues including locating and serving parties with legal documents.
  • Prepare and litigate support enforcement dockets in circuit court.
  • Represent the state in circuit court on cases involving family law matters relating to support establishment and enforcement.
  • Negotiate resolution on certain child support issues.
  • Prepare and file pleadings in Circuit Court.
  • Review and respond to correspondence and phone calls from attorneys case parties and other statewide child support offices.
  • Attend occasional statewide child support meetings.
  • Represent Marion County and/or the Oregon District Attorneys Association at statewide meetings regarding the child support program.
  • Prepare for administrative hearings court hearings or trials; testify at administrative and judicial hearings as to reasoning for actions and other relevant information.
  • Compose correspondence and communication with attorneys parties and other governmental agencies.
  • Prepare judgments miscellaneous motions orders and other legal documents.

Requirements for the Position

Deputy District Attorney 1

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of law and a member in good standing of the Oregon State Bar; AND
  2. Participation in an intern or clerkship with a law firm or DAs office preferablyinvolved in litigation of criminal cases; OR
  3. Participation in an intern or clerkship with a trial or appellate judge with the assigned responsibility for deciding issues arising in criminal cases; OR
  4. Any satisfactory combination of work education training or experience relevant to the position as determined by Marion County.

Deputy District Attorney 2 Only: In addition to the educational requirements above the Deputy District Attorney 2 must have at least one year experience as a licensed attorney practicing criminal law.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical: Bending carrying grasping handling hearing (10 feet) lifting (10 pounds) reaching repetitive motion of hands and wrists seeing (10 feet) sitting for extended periods of time talking and walking.

Mental:Independent judgment and action customer service decision making use of discretion interpersonal skills understand read write and speak English basic math skills problem analysis teamwork and training.


PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program fulltime employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions about your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or the US Department of Education.

Marion County does not offer VISA sponsorship. Within three days of hireyou will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Securitys I9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
