Hours: 8 hours per week
The Pride Community Centreis a service of the McMaster Students Union. We provide a contact point for McMaster students that may identify as gay lesbian bisexual transgender queer and/or any of the other diverse identities that make up our community. We offer educational programming and access to resources of interest as well as peer support and a physical space for students to meet and socialize with each other. As advocates for gender & sexual diversity the PCCs mandate upholds that LGBTQ students are entitled to a safe and supportive campus absent of homophobia and transphobia where the expression of ones gender & sexual identity is welcomed and respected.
The Community Facilitation Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all welcome meetings and community groups held by the PCC. This includes booking rooms organizing and training community group facilitators and promoting meeting times and locations of all groups. The ideal candidate is compassionate can facilitate discussion has leadership skills and has a strong working knowledge of safe space policy.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Prior experience attending or planning leadership conferences or workshops is an asset
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Oneonone communication skills is an asset
- Organizational and time management skills
- Strong Interpersonal skills for conflict resolution and mediation
- Being aware of LGTBQ2SI and mental health resources on and off campus
- An understanding of Safe(r) Spaces
- Ability to coordinate and lead a team of volunteers to ensure successful completion of tasks
- In depth understanding of current LGBTQ2SI and equityrelated issues
- Ability to open dialogue on LGBTQ2SI issues and to facilitate group discussions
Effort & Responsibility
- Continuing knowledge of topics related to the position
- Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all individuals accessing the PCC and peer support services
- Effort required to think creatively
- Expected to interact closely with groups of students and volunteers
Working Conditions

- Time demands may exceed stated hours of work
Training and Experience
- Previous leadership and group facilitation experience is an asset
- Necessary training will be provided and required
Equipment
- Use of Personal Computer
- Appropriate safety equipment to be used during all athletic events
Supervisory & Administrative Function
- Planning creating and standardizing creative sessions for support group programming.
- Working with the Director to supervise facilitators for welcome meetings.
- Aid the Coordinator and the rest of the executive team in the planning and execution of September and January training workshops.
- Aid in the creation and delivery of community
group facilitator training. - Complete space bookings EOHSS forms and other logistical duties in conjunction with the PCC Director
- Collect feedback on the community groups from both group facilitators and attendees and make changes accordingly.
Communications Function
- Communicate incoming issues to PCC Director
- Work with thePCC Coordinator to ensure welcome meetings and community groups are meeting the needs of students.
- Maintain strong communication with the PCC Coordinator other executives and volunteers.
- Maintain strong communication with all support group facilitators supporting them wherever necessary.
- Create a transition report for the incoming Community. Facilitation Coordinator in consultation with the PCC Coordinator.
Advertising & Promotions Function
- Work with Promotions Coordinator to ensure that relevant information is properly circulated to relevant communities.
Financial & Budgeting Function
- Develop a budget forsupport group programming. alongside the PCC Director
- Inform thePCC Coordinator of all potential expenses.
- Retain receipts related to expenditures to receive reimbursement.
Other
- Organize and oversee workshops discussion groups and other such meetings on a weekly basis
usually in the form of welcome meetings. - Provide regular updates to thePCC Director.
- Attend Executive Meetings as scheduled.
- Be an active member of the PCC Community.
- Other duties as assigned by the PCC Director.
