The metrology technician is responsible for providing support to the production value streams through dimensional/metrology evaluations and advanced gaging equipment programming. The main duties of this role include but are not limited to
- Interpret blueprints and part specifications to create metrology gaging plans.
- Program vision systems CMM equipment 2D/3D photo scanning systems laser scanning systems (Zoller Starrett Keyence Zwick Mitutoyo Zeiss etc.) for production and lab utilization.
- Troubleshoot daily issues and provide technical support for all metrology equipment.
- Provide training on metrology equipment for production and quality associates.
- Assist Lab Engineer and the Gage Team with maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Assist in new product / equipment research for future potential use.
- Perform annual verifications of equipment as needed.
- Interface with OEM vendors and suppliers for technical support and troubleshooting as needed.
- Perform capability studies and Gage R&R on equipment and gages.
- Support product quality testing (ZTesting) and any related machine operations.
- Create technical reports for product analysis and disposition product based on specifications.
- Assist Lab Engineer in completing special product analysis failure analysis and root cause investigations.
Create technical reports which clearly summarize testing results
Qualifications :
- Proven competence in metrology and gaging equipment with a heavy focus on programming.
- Required 3 years in laboratory environment (metrology).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with a logical thought process and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to inspect product characteristics according to established inspection plans using drawings and specifications.
- Ability to use power tools (examples include circular saws reciprocating saws band saw routers etc.) cutting lifting etc. to perform critical cutting tests including end of life testing and abuse testing.
- Able to work on your feet throughout the shift.
- Working knowledge with software such as MS Office (Outlook Word Excel etc.).
- Experience in creation of technical documentation and analysis reporting.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) from an accredited school. A college degree or technical certification is desired but not required.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and product catalogs.
- General knowledge of manufacturing processes material properties and metallurgy desired.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and email) with associates at all levels within the facility and overall organization.
- Ability to work independently selfstarter.
- Familiar with ISO or similar quality system requirements.
- Use of common quality measurement equipment (i.e. Vision systems optical comparators micrometers microscopes calipers hardness testers etc.).
- Experience with Machine and Process capability and Gage R&R studies.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
