Job Description Summary
The Senior Design Engineer position is a mid to late career hardware owning engineer reporting to an Engineering Manager within the Aerospace Engineering Divisions Production Technologies team. As a hardware owner you will own all engineering functions related to the production of assigned Commercial Aeroderivative High pressure Turbine Airfoils and CMC Shrouds.
In this role you will be on the front lines of a new organization that is dedicated to improving the producibility of HPT airfoils enhancing the EngineeringSupply chain relationship and using SQDC to dramatically improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers expectations.
Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes ongoing manufacturing support and strategic improvements across CMCs Castings Machining and Coatings for turbine airfoils or CMCs.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute the design analysis or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards practices procedures and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products
- Hardware ownership and projects available on HPT turbine airfoils.
- Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines manufacturing & quality and regularly exposed to commodity and industry experts all while promoting open and honest dialogue.
- At least twice a year with opportunities for more frequent travel to manufacturing sites to gain practical knowledge of manufacturing.
- Execute the engineering analysis and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles to improve manufacturability and technical robustness of assigned components.
- Use engineering judgement and experience to challenge entrenched processes and methodology to recommend improvements.
- Utilize indepth knowledge of engineering & manufacturing analytical thinking and technical experience to execute on technically complex projects to meet technical requirements and business goals under mentorship of senior engineers.
- Lead technical projects with moderate to high complexity through collaboration with field and industry experts.
- Provide support to repair development producibility improvements hardware delivery and vendorqualifications.
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Aerospace/Aviation design engineering
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas now or in the future for this job opening.
Desired Characteristics
- Masters degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Previous experience in manufacturing especially of Aerospace components.
- Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.
- Experience with Ansys and Unigraphics.
- Certification in ASME Y14 or practical experience with GD&T.
- Interest in being a selfstarter with a passion for problem solving and drivingsolutions while constantly learning and mentoring others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to document plan market and execute programs.
- Established project management skills.
