This vacancy is located in the Capitol Detail Section in the Department of Public Safety and Corrections/Office of State Police located in Caddo Parish. This posting may be used to fill a probational appointment job appointment or promotional opportunity.
There is one position posted. This position is located at the Shreveport State Office Building located at 1525 Fairfield Avenue Shreveport LA.
Applicants must live within 75 miles of their assigned location. Applicants who do not meet the residency requirements will be rejected.
Typical job duties include:
State Facilities SecurityOfficers assigned to these duties provide police protection to the state employees and visitors at their assigned location. These officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances conduct frequent security patrols investigate crimes and prevent and deter unlawful activity.
Applicants must be able to qualify with firearms complete advanced driver and weapons training pass a thorough background investigation and meet all annual training requirements.
Starting pay is determined by your level of experience according to the following schedule:
DPS Cadet (03 years of law enforcement experience. No minimum experience is required)$42016 per year
DPS Officer (3 years as a POSTcertified police officer with the power of arrest)$46425 per year
DPS Senior Officer (4 years as a POSTcertified police officer with the power of arrest)$53144 per year
Experienced officers who are POST Certified may be hired at up to $31.17 an hour ($64834 per year). Only wellqualified applicants with additional certifications and more than 10 years of service will qualify for this starting pay rate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Possession of a current drivers license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To learn the basics of law enforcement services in support of the DPS Police mission to protect life enforce laws serve the public and conduct investigations while in a training academy.

Differs from DPS Police Officer by the absence of experienced level law enforcement duties.

Trains for certification in emergency vehicle operation firearms defense tactics crash investigation officer survival deescalation leadership enforcement of traffic and criminal laws as well as other pertinent training courses.
Completes DPS Police specific training provided by the Louisiana State Police Training Academy or DPS Police Instructors.
