Job Description

POSITION TITLE: DefensiveCoordinator

EXEMPTION STATUS:Exempt

REPORTS TO:Principal and Campus Athletic Coordinator/Head Coach

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:As assigned per contractschool year

Primary Purpose

Provide instruction and coach students to develop the skill and ability to excel in the sports assigned. Responsible for contributing to the educational program and to students growth and development.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Bachelors Degree

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures

Knowledge of University Interscholastic League rules

Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes

Strong organizational communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

Strong leadership skills

Experience

Teacher/coach experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Program Management

  • Assist the Campus Athletic Coordinator in preparing and maintaining an athletic handbook of regulations and procedures for coaches.
  • Assist the Campus Athletic Coordinator with organizing an offseason program that strengthens and conditions all athletes for their respective sports (Grades 712).
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with campus and central office staff.
  • Comply with all District and campus routines and regulations.

Student Management

  • Maintain proper and appropriate discipline among students during athletic contests practice sessions and while off campus.
  • Travel with student athletes and supervise the team during athletic competition in assigned sports.
  • Develop a plan to effectively utilize multisport athletes and their transition to and from each sport.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.

Communication

  • Effectively communicate with colleagues students and parents; and establish and maintain open lines of communication with student athletes and their parents.
  • Work with the Campus Athletic Coordinator to ensure proper public relations and publicity.
  • Work closely with the athletic trainers and Campus Athletic Coordinator in communicating with athletes and parents the proper procedures for filing insurance claims in cases of injury.
  • Articulate the Districts mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit support.
  • Demonstrate awareness of District and community needs and communicate those needs to the Campus Athletic Coordinator.
  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
  • Encourage by example and through instruction sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Maintain familiarity with District curriculum and goals to better serve students needs.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment standard office equipment including computer peripherals such as electronic devices and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); school vehicle and bus
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; kneeling squatting bending stooping; grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension and reaching
  • Motion: Frequent walking and physical movements associated with sports
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance 3055 pounds with assistance and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
  • Environment: Work inside and outside with exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather; frequent exposure to noise; frequent indistrict and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and work around moving vehicles
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress work with frequent interruptions
