Schedule: Monday to Friday 7.5 hour shifts
Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) part of Ontario Health is responsible for the coordination of organ and tissue donation and transplantation in Ontario. Our mandate includes increasing public awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation education of health care professionals and ensuring a safe and effective donation and transplant system in Ontario. Working collaboratively with our stakeholders and fostering organizational and individual growth we value honesty trust respect and compassion.
The Clinical Specialist provides education and training to the Tissue team as a subject matter expert identifies and participates in quality and process improvement initiatives and provides key project management support to ensure effective Provincial Resource Centre (PRC) and Tissue Program operations.
Here is what you will be doing:
Provides mentorship and coaching to Tissue staff
Collaborates with the Manager and the education department to develop training for any and all of the following for the purpose of professional development and initiatives which focus on best processes and practices:
the implementation of new systems procedures processes and tools
identified area of improvement (process tool system or otherwise)
identified skill gaps/area for competency improvement within the team
Best practices in donor case management
Ongoing competency training and refresher education
Participates in the annual competency review process (for clinical competencies; reviews via the functional template) for PRCTissue staff
Reviews processes on an ongoing basis to identify any areas of improvement in work flow or opportunities to support/implement initiatives which lead to increasing organ yield and allocation
Identifies changes to IT database which would provide better clinical records; works with IT to make this change and educates staff on the changes made ensuring understanding of new methods to be used internally
Audits database records to ensure compliance
Manages assigned projects tasks; ensuring PRC/TGLN staff affected by projects are informed and aware of changes
Works collaboratively with others identifying action items and assigning to appropriate stakeholders
Compiles project status updates and reviews with the Project team
Identifies potential risks (clinical or otherwise) and escalates; typically to the Director PRC
Works with members of the quality department to gather information for critical incident case reviews participates in the investigation process and the development of recommendations and supports the implementation of recommendations arising from case reviews
Works closely with tissue banks donor hospitals and other staff to optimize donation outcome; ensures that all processes are streamlined and donor management is maximized
Works in conjunction with the Manager PRCTissue to support process related to tissue donor case management; works with stakeholders tissue banks and external health care professionals to support this
Leads PRC Tissue quality related initiatives such as initiatives related to increasing tissue donor numbers tissue offering and clinical processes
Identifies and develops metrics to support continuous quality monitoring and improvement
Utilizes research and evidence based practices to develop new practices and procedures
Assists in preparing for annual internal and Health Canada audits/inspections
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in science biological science or health science with a focus on pathophysiology preferred
Masters level preparation in Science or Nursing an asset
Certified Tissue Banking Specialist (CTBS) an asset
Minimum five (5) years of recent experience in tissue donation or a combination of equivalent experience and education
Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated experience in project management an asset
Demonstrated experience in leading quality initiatives preferred
Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including a demonstrated ability to work effectively with people at all levels
Organized with strong attention to detail and adaptable to change
Computer literate
Rate of Pay: $82793.37 $103429.28per annum
Employment Type: FullTime contract (15 months)
Location:Toronto Ontario (currently hybrid; subject to change)
