THE CITY OF NOVATO IS RECRUITING
FOR
FACILITY ATTENDANT
*This is a part time nonbenefitted position with intermittent hours that are generally on nights and weekends*

The City of Novato is currently seeking parttime nonbenefitted Facility Attendants to work intermittent hours typically during nights and weekends. The ideal candidate is 18 years or older friendly professional and able to communicate and work effectively and courteously with the public. This individual must demonstrate a strong sense of honesty and integrity be customer service oriented and exercise sound judgment and maturity when handling unexpected situations. Availability on weekday evenings and weekends is essential.

Facility Attendants are part of the Recreation Leader classification of parttime hourly employees. While Facility Attendant job responsibilities will be specific to duties throughout the City the Recreation Leader information is listed below.

DEFINITION

Performs duties and tasks associated with recreational activities provided through the various programs camps classes activities special events and assist users of City buildings predominantly outside of normal business hours perform tasks related to monitoring building usage and other tasks as assigned.

This is a parttime/temporary position.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

RecreationLeaderII: This is a position normally assigned to a specific event program class activity or facility on a seasonal andor irregular hire basis. Class is distinguished from level III in the difficulty of activities assigned.

RecreationLeaderIII: This is the lead or more difficult task working level. Persons in this classification should be comfortable with working alone with minimal supervision as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Coordinator responsible for the specific recreation program camp class activity or event.

Example of Duties

Duties may include. but are not limited to the following:

Recreation Leader I:
  • Assistsinrecreationactivityleadershipincluding but not limited toindoor and outdoorgames craftsandspecialeventsforprogramsserving youth of all ages.
  • Assists in the instruction and supervision of recreational programs includingbut not limited to the following: camps youth enrichment programs youth athletics gymnasticsarts & craftspreschoolelementaryand middle school programs.
  • Responsible for care and safety of equipment and facilities in theircharge:enforces safety procedures for program participants.
  • Issues supplies and materials: does necessary field preparation for athletic events: acts as scorekeeper.
  • Communicatesprogram informationandprovidesgeneral customer service.
  • May be assigned cashiering responsibilities at a supervised swimming pool. aquatic event program camp class special event or other activity for which a fee is being charged. Cashiering duties include receiving money. maintaining attendance forms verifying receipts.
RecreationLeaderII/III:
  • Instruction and supervision of recreational programs including but not limited to the following: camps youth enrichment programs youth athletics gymnastics arts & crafts preschoolelementarymiddle school and adultprograms classes activities and events.
  • Communicates program information and provides general customer service.
  • Administersageneralevent programcampsclass or activityatanassignedrecreationsite.
  • Monitor building/facility to ensure that the building/facility is used appropriately that no damage is caused to the building/facility or its equipment. report and record any damage or incidents to the building prepare appropriate Incident Reports report and record any hazardous conditions/items in need of repair to the Custodial Supervisor and/or Recreation Supervisor.
  • Assist custodians in setup and takedown of chairs and equipment for meetings classes and events.
  • Provide customer service/assistance to building users renters participants visitors as necessary. provide routine information on City activities and facilities answer telephones.
  • May be responsible for opening and closing building.
  • Mayperformleadershiproleforeventsyouthathleticleaguecoachdaycampclasses programssupportresponsibilitiesforadultathleticleaguesorforthemorecomplextasksasassigned.
  • Responsible for care and safety of equipment and facilities in theircharge.
  • Enforcessafetyproceduresforprogramparticipantsand subordinate personnel.
  • Maintains records and reports; provides information and assistance in programdevelopment.
  • Leaders with prior Novato recreation experience may provide training/guidance tonewparttimeemployees.
  • May for a limited period of time assume duties of the Recreation Leader III in his/her absence.

Certificate
Recreation leaders working with youth groups must be certified free from communicable tuberculosis according to California State Law and provide the City of Novato proof of recertification on a fouryear cycle. Must submit set of fingerprints to California Department of Justice in order to work with children under 18 years old. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
