Job Description

Summary:
As a Barge Crew team member you will be working handson with the RoRo barge. You will undertake a wide range of RoRo operations including inspections along with arrival and departure requirements. The Vessel Operation Director will assign projects & tasks involving routine maintenance on barge systems. At Trailer Bridge we provide the additional tools to help you Make it Happen. Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain RoRo barge systems and controls including: dieselpowered electrical generating equipment switchgear & distribution systems electrical ballast pumps piping systems valve operators general lighting systems navigation lighting equipment repair of trailer stands (pullmans) cleaning and painting areas as required.
  • Knowledgeable of maritime and material handling functions: use of tide tables to enable proficient ballasting operations rigging of towing gear winches and hoisting equipment mooring lines and hardware forklift operation.
  • Perform barge arrival and departure requirements.
  • Retrieve and stow emergency pickup line.
  • Handle lines of assist tugs and towing tug in preparation for entering port and mooring
  • Operate essential electric generation and sea water systems enroute to mooring at Trailer Bridge facility at Blount Island Terminal
  • Conduct prearrival security check of accessible spaces
  • Prepare barge mooring lines lower and secure stern ramps
  • Ensure that ILA line handlers properly secure the barge at the facility ballast barge to enable prompt cargo operations observe cargo discharge to assist in event of malfunctioning trailer stands.
  • Conduct inspection of each arriving barge verifying condition and operation of: electric generating and distribution systems ballast systems stern ramps wires motors and controllers mooring lines wires winches navigation lights and day shape ladders lifelines and safety chains trailer stands Pullmans emergency tow wire
  • Conduct routine maintenance on installed barge systems: Electric generators Fuel system air compressors internal and navigation lighting stern ramps and associated winches motors controllers wires and related equipment ballast system controllers pumps motors and valves towing gear including wire chains shackles rigging hardware and retrieval lines.
  • Maintain and repair triplestack box carrier TBC barges.
  • Assist in shifting berths of TBC barges performing all safety functions including coordinating of assist tugs and handling lines inspect mooring lines wires pennants and winches for proper operation inspect barge safety systems including navigation lights day shape safety chains and lifelines maintain interbox connectors.
  • Clean barge of trash rigging equipment and other debris to ensure proper drainage.
  • Clean ramp facility and dispose of trash.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Other projects and tasks as directed by the Vessel Operations Foreman and the Director Vessel Operations
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2000 quality processes including identifying problems generating solutions initiating corrective action verifying implementation of corrective action and controlling nonconforming outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Maritime experience a plus!
  • Hands on Mechanical experience in maintaining vessels.
  • Strong technical knowledge of barges and tugs
  • Good communications skills verbal and written
  • Ability to operate mechanical equipment including forklifts and cranes.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including long shifts nights & weekends.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
