Software Development Manager - BMC Firmware, AWS Firmware team

The AWS Firmware team drives system innovation in the servers used by all of Amazon Web Services including EC2 S3 and CloudFront. Our engineers solve the hardest problems that fuse software hardware and the cloud. We take big bets on new concepts enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to build and own server firmware and embedded software for AWS world scale compute and storage solutions. The ideal candidate for this role will be an innovative handson leader seasoned in building and leading software teams developing infrastructure solutions.
As a manager in this team you will be leading a team of highly motivated software developers that thrives on solving challenging problems with innovative solutions. The team couples software and firmware skills sets with scalable software engineering disciplines to solve real world data center infrastructure problems. You would lead a team building validating and operating software solutions in diverse technology domains from embedded software platforms to largescale distributed software systems in Python C/C and other languages using proprietary and open source technologies and Amazon services alike.
You will lead a team responsible for development and operation of embedded software and firmware in the AWS fleet spanning server management and monitoring storage solutions power and battery systems and more. You will lead new feature development efforts from concept to launch and beyond. You will establish strategic vision and drive execution in defining and delivering new products and services. This is a fastpaced position where you will be challenged to think on your feet. Youll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. AWS Engineers are shaping the way people use computers and designing the future of cloud.

3 years of engineering team management experience
7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
