Job Description
Job Summary:Van Drivers play an integral part of our community and educational process. They are committed to safely transport students to and from school. Beginning and ending each school day by providing a supportive caring and safe environment.
Responsibilities:
- Follows planned routes making scheduled stops to transport children to and from school while obeying all rules and regulations.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school vans.
- Communicates with the dispatcher via twoway radio during the route; provides updates to the dispatcher and reports delays mechanical failure emergencies change in traffic patterns or accidents.
- Manages student behavior when occupants are in the van.
- Provides a written record of violation of student conduct to the Transportation Safety Coordinator.
- Keep the assigned van clean.
- Keep to an assigned schedule.
- Perform a Pre and Post Trip DOT inspection for mechanical defects with assigned vehicle.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on outofdistrict school trips.
- Transports only authorized students and School Department staff.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous van driving experience is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Education:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Compliance with all applicable federal state county district and contract specific Van Driver requirements.
- Must have RI Drivers License or have the ability to get one
