Under the supervision of a Producer you will be responsible for covering general news in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions primarily for radio with possible contributions to television and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of local issues in Ottawa and Gatineau and be able to produce content quickly in response to current events.
Governed by CBC/RadioCanadas journalistic standards and practices you will be expected to demonstrate both creativity and rigor in order to keep our audience well informed. This is a fulltime permanent position from Monday to Friday.
You have:
A university degree (or equivalent) in journalism communications or a related field
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant journalism experience demonstrating proven fieldwork skills and a solid understanding of the digital landscape
Excellent writing skills for radio television and digital platforms along with an interest in multiplatform content production
Strong experience in digital writing and a good knowledge of social media
The ability to select relevant audiencefocused stories that reflect public discourse and societal issues
A sharp news sense and the ability to react quickly to breaking news
Indepth knowledge of regional issues (Outaouais and Eastern Ontario) as well as national and international affairs including the social political cultural and economic landscape of the region
A strong sense of innovation initiative curiosity and boldness in pursuing stories and facts
A good understanding of RadioCanadas mandate and journalistic policies
The ability to plan organize and coordinate daily work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines
Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
Excellent command of spoken and written French and a good working knowledge of spoken and written English
A valid drivers license
The ability to learn new technologies (knowledge of production tools such as iNews Dalet and Mediacentral used at RadioCanada is an asset)
Availability to travel and work flexible hours
