Job Type: Seasonalcontracted position
Employee Status: Part time; approx. 1215 hours per week
Dates: June 23 2025 August 15 2025
Location: Detroit Michigan; In Person
Pay Rate: $18 per hour


Brilliant Detroit Overview
In 2016 Brilliant Detroit was created to provide a radically new approach to kindergarten readiness in neighborhoods. The idea was to create a unique delivery model in our approach to early childhood development by using underutilized housing stock to create early child and family centers in neighborhoods. Brilliant Detroit homes provide holistic services for kids 08 predicated on evidencebased programs around health family support and education. Brilliant Detroit was born to create kid success neighborhoods. Today in each location neighbors come together for fellowship activities and learning to assure school readiness and provide needed support for families.


Job Summary:
Brilliant Detroit offers a unique and exciting opportunity to collaborate with local education partners. You will host a sixweek literacy tutoring program for families with children in grades K3. As a Tutor I you will play a crucial and impactful role in our literacy tutoring program. Your dedication and expertise will help develop students literacy skills significantly impacting their learning journey. You will also host three family workshops to engage with families empowering them to support their childs learning journey. Your role is not just important but significant and integral to the success of our program. Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Deliver targeted instruction in person to a class of approximately 1215 scholars.
  • Support small group learning in daily 90minute sessions 24 days weekly between 9:30 am 12 pm Monday Thursday.
  • Follow a prescribed literacybased lesson plan.
  • Administer assessments on all students before the start of the program and at the conclusion to measure learning progress and program efficacy and to tailor instruction to individual student needs thereby ensuring the effectiveness of our program.
  • Track and enter data such as attendance and assessment data weekly.
  • Attend and engage in all Brilliant Detroit training weekly PLC (professional learning community) meetings and additional meetings with the Hub and program lead staff as needed.
  • Conduct team huddles to build relationships with parents/caretakers
  • Facilitate monthly family workshops to equip families with reading tips for use at home and foster a supportive learning environment beyond the classroom.
  • Communicate with families consistently with session reminders or other relevant information.
  • Create a positive achievementoriented structured learning environment that motivates and supports students.
  • Participate in feedback and coaching conversations with the Program Leader. The leader will provide guidance and support based on instructional observations and help you develop your teaching skills. You are not alone in this journey. Qualifications:
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Experience teaching or working with families and early elementary children is preferred.
  • Reliable internet access is required for virtual meetings.
  • Experience using Zoom and Google Suite (i.e. Google Docs Google Drive Google Sheets) preferred.
  • Can prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Must be selfmotivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Collaborates well with others in an elementary subject setting
  • Language: English required Spanish desirable candidates fluent in English and Spanish are highly encouraged to apply!
