Role Description:

The Staff Attorney performs complex legal research represents the Authority in court and other legal forums provides legal advice to the various departments within the Authority and assists with the coordination of the work of outside counsel.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs complex legal research and writing.
  • Performs due diligence.
  • Analyzes and summarizes legal documents
  • Prepares legal opinions
  • Represents the Authoritys interests in court and other forums.
  • Provides legal advice and guidance regarding regulatory and administrative matters to Authority staff and officials
  • Coordinates discovery requests.
  • Prepares correspondence.
  • Assists in the coordination of the work of outside counsel.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Executive VicePresident Legal Affairs and General Counsel.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Key Working Relationships:Internal: Authoritywide personnel. External: court and regulatory proceedings.

Skills & Qualifications:

The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience:One (1) to three (3) or more years of progressive legal experience.Minimum Education Requirements:Graduation from an accredited school of law.Required Skills:Strong analytical planning and organizational skills.Strong skills and tact to deal effectively with competing priorities.Strong legal research skills.Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate legal issues.Selfstarter.Capable of working in a fastpaced environment.Utilizes personal computer and maintains a working knowledge of applicable software programs (i.e. word processing spreadsheets email etc.).Required Licenses & Certifications:Must be a member of the District of Columbia Bar or eligible for waiver into the District of Columbia Bar within 12 months of the appointment and prior trial experience is preferred but not required.Required Languages:EnglishPhysical Requirements:General office conditions
