TEMPORARY MECHANICAL / ELECTRICAL FOREPERSON (G)

The Waterloo Region District School Board is seeking a qualified experienced and energetic individual to co-ordinate mechanical and electrical renovations.
Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Electrical and Environmental Services the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and assisting with all phases of mechanical/electrical alterations upgrades and retrofit projects from design through to occupancy and warranty stages.
The successful applicant for this Temporary ESS/OSSTF Level G positionwill work 40 hours per week 12 months per year effective as soon as possible to August 31 2026 (with the possibility of extension).
Salary Range $75833 - $92165 per annum
Responsibilities
- Supervise maintenance trades certified trades and contract personnel;
- Provide technical expertise regarding the design installation operation and renewal of the Boards heating ventilation air conditioning fire protection plumbing building control and electrical systems;
- Evaluate both urgent and long term needs and develop cost effective options in collaboration with other team members;
- Develop scope of work with accurate cost estimates and timelines for contemplated projects;
- Prepare contract documents and specifications assist in expediting procurements and liaise between contractors consultants appropriate Board staff and regulatory officials;
- Monitor the progress of projects provide direction for on-site conditions report findings and follow up with warranty operation and maintenance issues;
- Perform contract administration including the review of progress draws change notices schedules and as built documentation within contract timelines;
- Ensure asset and drawing database information is updated at completion of projects;
- Develop and maintain standards manuals for mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems;
- Provide or arrange for staff training on newly installed building systems; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Licensed Mechanical and/or Electrical Tradesperson or formal training in Engineering Technology is required;
- Minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical/electrical building operations maintenance construction and/or systems design preferably in the educational sector;
- Strong working knowledge of the operation installation and renewal of building mechanical and electrical systems including HVAC Plumbing and Heating Fire protection Electrical and Building Automation;
- Experience in managing a multitude of projects and assignments simultaneously with strong analytical skills and the ability to implement cost effective and energy efficient solutions;
- Working knowledge of safety fire electrical and building codes as well as other municipal regulations and bylaws;
- Ability to prepare review and manage contract documents for a variety of mechanical and electrical projects.
- Proven competency and expertise across the mechanical and electrical building system operations maintenance and energy efficiency spectrum;
- Demonstrated organizational skills written and oral communication skills as well as computer skills for applications in spreadsheets database and word processing systems;
- Knowledge of CAD systems as well as formal training in Construction Contract Administration and Ontario Building Fire and Electrical Codes would be an asset;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and possess high degree of initiative and self-confidence necessary to function in a strong team based environment; and
- Valid drivers license and reliable personal vehicle is required.
