Job Description

Adjunct Teaching Position
Mathematics Department
School of Natural Sciences

The Mathematics Department routinely hires adjunct faculty to fill curricular needs on a parttime basis and maintains a pool of candidates for temporary parttime positions as the need arises. This position is continuously open and qualified persons will be selected to teach facetoface undergraduate courses (College Algebra Math for Business Precalculus Quantitative Reasoning and the Corequisite Support Courses associated with each of these) as the need arises. Appointments are generally made on a semesterbysemester basis. Positions are renewable contingent upon need and performance.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Masters degree in Mathematics is required. An advanced degree in mathematics education or a related field will be considered if the application clearly documents at least 18 graduate credit hours in graduatelevel mathematics courses. This requirement may be waived for adjuncts teaching only corequisite math support classes.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in classroom teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Facility in online communication via email learning management systems and online homework platforms.
  • Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching facetoface sections of College Algebra Math for Business Precalculus Quantitative Reasoning and/or corequisite math support courses on campus in Austin TX. This entails following a common syllabus utilizing online homework (MyOpenMath MyMathLab or ALEKS) and learning management systems (Canvas) holding at least one oncampus office hour per week per section and keeping in contact with the course coordinator primarily by email for common assignments and exams. Class size is generally 2430 students; (current as of Fall 2024) per 3credit course section.

St. Edwards emphasizes critical thinking and ethical practices as well as small classes personalized learning and exciting internship opportunities.
