Job Description

OPENS: 06/10/2024CLOSES: Until FilledJOB TITLE: Teacher Physical Education/CoachREPORTS TO: Campus DirectorDEPT. / SCHOOL: Academic / Bob Hope School / Port Arthur High School Campus WAGE / HOUR STATUS: Exempt/Full TimePAY GRADE:Teacher Salary Schedule (prorated for number of days employed) PRIMARY PURPOSE: To develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness hygienic habits and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of students in physical achievement; to develop strength skill agility poise and coordination in individual dual and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each students ability. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelors degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of subjects assigned Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with specific endorsements for operating a school bus General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned. Manage and supervise athletic activities and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills teamwork and good sportsmanship. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests practice sessions as well as any athletic activity on and off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Must acquire Texas CDL (Commercial Driver License) to transport students in district vehicles. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness health education rhythms and dance and individual dual or team sports utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program. Analyzes demonstrates and explains basic skills knowledges and strategies of formal sports games rhythms and fundamentals of body movement. Plan lessons that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required using technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student to the extent feasible. Works cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). May teach Physical Education classes for handicapped students interscholastic athletics or drill team to senior high students. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the overall safety of students taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities. Maintains control of storage and use of schoolowned property. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Evaluates each students growth in physical skills knowledge and contribution in team sports. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and/or in selfselected professional growth activities keeping informed of and complying with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines. Selects and requisitions uniforms equipment and instructional aides; maintains required inventory records. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health attitude and learning problems. Supervises students in outofclassroom activities during the assigned work day. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs and assists in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required Develops and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and shows written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides(s) and volunteer(s). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the Campus Director. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district. Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students and is congruent with the teaching philosophy Board of Education policy and goals of the district. Maintain student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Encourage students to meet acceptable standards of classroom behavior as defined in the Student Code of Conduct Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities. Assist in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principal and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Participate in staff development activities to improve jobrelated skills. Keep informed of and complies with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Maintain regular attendance. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students parents and colleagues concerning academic attendance and behavioral progress of students. Check and respond to email and voice mail daily. Take precautions to protect students. Make provisions to be available to students and parents for educationallyrelated purposes outside the instructional day when necessary and under reasonable terms. Abide by the schools grading policy. Maintain records of student attendance and performance. Maintain an accurate and uptodate grade book and at any specified time student grade information can be produced. Maintain records as required by law and district policy. Uphold and enforce all school policies and state regulations. Maintain confidentiality. Does not discuss children or their families outside of the school. Attend and participate in committee team departmental faculty and district meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals including specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the assignment. Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy procedures and data; maintain emotional control under stress.
