Job Description

***This is a time limited grant funded position with an anticipated assignment period of 24 months and a set salary of $70000 annually.***



LOCATION: Remote must live in or adjacent to one of the following counties in Western North Carolina: Clay Graham Haywood Jackson Macon Swain Buncombe Henderson Polk Transylvania Avery Caldwell Madison McDowell Mitchell Watauga Yancey Alexander Alleghany Ashe Wilkes or Rowan. Incumbent in this role must be a resident of NC or live within 40 miles of the NC border. Travel is required for this position.



GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) is a federally funded supplemental program administrated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund mental health assistance and training activities in areas that have been declared a major disaster by the President of the United States. The mission of the CCP is to assist individuals and communities in recovering from the effects of disasters through the provision of communitybased outreach and psychoeducational services. The CCP supports shortterm interventions that involve assisting disaster survivors in understanding their current situation and reactions mitigating stress developing coping strategies accessing sources of emotional support and encouraging linkages with other individuals and agencies that help survivors in their recovery process.


The CCP Child Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with representatives of the community providing crisis counseling for children and adolescents parent education and supportive family services focused on grief and loss and delivers trainings that includes reactions to disasters creating safe environments creating classroom communities and healthy response to lifechanging events.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Crisis Counseling:

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with representatives of community day care faithbased and school groups.
  • Provides crisis counseling services for children and adolescents parent education and supportive family services focused on grief and loss.
  • Promotes resilience and successful coping techniques using individual group and family evidencebased strategies.
  • Provides culturally sensitive education and training about the effects of trauma on young children and their families.
  • Delivers training that includes reactions to disasters creating safe environments creating classroom communities and healthy responses to lifechanging events.
  • Works with individuals families and groups to provide outreach emotional support and other needed resources.
  • Conducts individual and group crisis counseling public education and referrals as needed.
  • Represents Hope4NC program in the community
  • Meet with community members to identify the needs of individuals and families.
  • Provide information and referrals to communitybased programs and resources such as housing healthcare food assistance mental health services job training and more.
  • Guide clients through the process of accessing needed services ensuring that they understand eligibility requirements and application processes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local service providers nonprofits government agencies and community organizations.
  • Follow up with community members to ensure they have accessed the resources and services they were referred to and provide additional support as needed.
  • Track community member progress document interactions and maintain accurate files.
  • Work with community members to resolve any barriers or challenges they face in accessing services.
  • Maintain accurate records of all referrals resources provided and outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on referral activities community member outcomes and community resource availability.
  • Advocate on behalf of community members to ensure they have access to necessary services.
  • Conduct outreach to increase awareness of available community resources and programs.
  • Participate in community events workshops or informational sessions to promote resource availability.


Community & Parent Education:

  • Coordinates data collection activities and reviews data form submissions for accuracy.
  • Reviews and accepts or rejects data forms submitted through the mobile application or paper data forms.
  • Uses mobile application to complete data forms as necessary.


Other Duties as Assigned.



KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with community members and their families.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion in dealing with individuals in crisis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and service providers.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong commitment to public service and community engagement.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Ability to communicate on the telephone and laptop.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and motion with hands.
  • Ability to work in a variety of locations some of which require overnight travel.



QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree in Human Services business administration emergency management or related fields preferred. Two years of direct experience in behavioral health business management and/ or grant management required.


Required Training:

Core Control Training

CCSP Data Collection Training

Supplemental ongoing training as required.


Preferred Experience:

Preferred experience with children and families in behavioral health in crisis and disaster settings experience in school settingstrong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with clients and their families active listening skills ability to update and maintain documentation and complete assessments empathy and compassion when managing individuals in crisis and ability to work collaboratively in a teamoriented environment.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparation and analysis of documents viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Physical activity in this job includes crouching reaching walking talking hearing and repetitive motion of hands wrists and fingers.
  • Sedentary work with lifting requirements up to 10 pounds sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Mental concentration is required in all aspects of work.

*** In addition to the above physical activity in this job includes ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time (up to six hours). Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for outreach or community events.



RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: The person in this position is required to reside in North Carolina or within 40 miles of the North Carolina border.


SALARY:Depending on qualifications & experience of candidate. This position is nonexempt and is eligible for overtime compensation.
