The Communicable Disease Control Branch is responsible for communicable disease control immunization and public health information systems. In accordance with the Alberta Immunization Regulation under the Public Health Act the Immunization Business Unit operationalize policies and guidelines to ensure accurate and timely management of Albertas vaccine supply.
Role Responsibilities
Alberta Health is seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Consultant to lead and support key operations in immunization delivery across the province. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to public health initiatives by supporting vaccine distribution policy development and stakeholder collaboration at local provincial and national levels.
This role involves a balance of strategic leadership and handson program implementation requiring strong clinical knowledge project management skills and an ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across the healthcare and government sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Operational Leadership
- Lead operational planning and clinical support for nonAHS immunization partners.
- Manage the allocation and wholesale distribution of provincially funded vaccines.
- Oversee and renew vaccine distribution contracts with wholesale distributors.
- Lead the Alberta Immunization Outreach Program.
- Provide guidance on clinical and operational policies SOPs and other program documentation.
- Serve as a key point of contact for immunization inquiries from providers and community partners.
Project & Change Management
- Drive changes within Immunization Operations tied to systemwide updates (e.g. Health System Refresh).
- Lead initiatives to improve accountability and performance within vaccine logistics.
- Prepare detailed project reports presentations and recommendations based on evidence and stakeholder input.
Stakeholder Engagement & Representation
- Represent Alberta Health at local provincial and federal forums related to vaccine operations.
- Act as a liaison between Alberta Health Health Canada the Public Health Agency of Canada and other key partners.
- Facilitate regular communication with immunization partners through meetings presentations and written correspondence.
Policy & Communications Support
- Draft key messages briefing notes and policy recommendations for senior government officials.
- Assist with public and internal communications including responding to inquiries and contributing to policy documents.
- Support the implementation of the Alberta Immunization Policy (AIP) through evidenceinformed recommendations.
Emergency & Operational Support
- Become proficient in the Alberta Vaccine Inventory (AVI) system to support logistics and planning.
- Be available to work at the Provincial Vaccine Depot (PVD) in Fort Saskatchewan as required including during public health emergencies or operational surges.
- Note: The PVD is located in a secured environment that includes proximity to supervised inmates and working in cold storage conditions (28C) for up to 2 hours.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and supporting physical operations during vaccine shipping receiving and storage.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A bachelors degree in nursing pharmacy and/or Medicine plus a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in immunization programs public health or healthcare operations. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college as required by the Health Professions Act.
Required:
- Current professional registration (e.g. RN or Pharmacist) in good standing in Alberta.
- Knowledge of vaccine logistics cold chain requirements and clinical immunization practices.
- Experience in project management policy development and intergovernmental collaboration.
- Excellent communication organizational and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to travel occasionally within Alberta and work flexible hours during emergency response efforts.
Asset:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Experience working writing briefing notes
- Masters degree in public health Nursing Pharmacy MSc Med or MSc in Medical Science
Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.
This is a fulltime position working 36.25 hours per week.
Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.
