Job Description
The Biology Department is seeking a Research Technologist in the Johnston Lab. The technician will study how potential cell cytoplasmic transfer occurs in human retinal organoidderived photoreceptor cells. The technician will generate fluorescent lines and examine their transfer in vitro within photoreceptor cells in human retinal organoids. They will also be able to conduct experiments investigating the effect of hypoxic environments
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Ordering consumables and maintaining records/inventory.
- Managing supplies.
- Upholding safety regulations.
- Maintaining stocks.
- Stem cell culture.
- Organoid differentiation.
- Immunostaining.
- Confocal microscopy.
- Preparing stock solutions buffers and media.
- Data analysis.
- Attending and presenting data in lab meetings.
- Work with PI and other lab members to write a manuscript.
Special Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in Excel PowerPoint Word Illustrator.
- Photoshop is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and good written and oral communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Biology Chemistry or related field.
- Some related postundergraduate work experience preferred.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some related postundergraduate work experience is preferred.
- Previous experience with molecular biology cell culture and/or DNA/protein molecular biology software is strongly preferred.
- Stem cell expertise is preferred.
