About KMOV:

First Alert Four in St. Louis is looking for an experienced News Director to join our awardwinning team and make a difference in our community. KMOVTV is the most watched station in Missouri and Southern Illinois and one of the top CBS affiliates in the country. The news operation has been recognized as the Regional Edward R Murrow Winner for Best Newscast and Overall Excellence in the last two years. In 2023 the RTDNA honored KMOVTV with the National Edward R Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The station operates out of a brand new stateoftheart broadcasting and digital facility in the St. Louis suburb of Maryland Heights. St. Louis is a great metro area with a low cost of living and worldwide recognized professional sports public parks and tourist attractions. The Gateway Arch St. Louis Zoo Forest Park St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Blues Hockey and CITY STL soccer teams are just a few of the major attractions in the St. Louis community that bring millions to the region each year to live work and play.

Job Summary/Description:

KMOV the Grayowned CBS affiliate in the St. Louis Missouri market is seeking a News Director to lead our awardwinning News Department. The successful candidate will bring an established record of recruiting developing and retaining a Newsroom team rooted in strong journalism and innovation. We are looking for a leader who embraces creative storytelling and investigative journalism as key components of newscasts as well as digital streaming and social platforms. The News Director oversees all content operations has excellent news judgment and provides strategic direction for the daily news and longterm planning. Must have a history of managing financial technical and human resources.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Strategically lead inspire and manage the news department.
Oversee onair and digital news content.
Work closely with the news team to produce highquality relevant local content that sets the station apart from competitors.
Prioritize collaboration between television and digital content teams along with marketing to create original programming and breaking news coverage for all platforms.
Demonstrated success recruiting coaching and developing talent with a passion for providing consistent constructive feedback.
Experience leading news content creation and management fostering a collaborative and positive workplace culture that empowers individual and team excellence.
Strong analytical skills capable of leveraging complex data to inform and refine content coverage and distribution strategies.
Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research discover and distribute content.
Lead a culture that owns enterprise reporting and breaking news across all content platforms.
Interact daily with all department heads in a mutual effort to achieve station goals and extend our brand.
Work closely with the General Manager and Department Heads on longrange planning and station initiatives.
Be a motivator who fosters an inspiring and engaging environment
Perform other duties as assigned to drive and fulfill the mission while abiding by the values of this organization.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Journalism or Mass Communications
5 years of previous experience in newsroom leadership is required plus additional years in content experience
Successful innovative leadership along with staff and product development skills.
Topnotch communication skills are an absolute must.
Solid journalistic judgment and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate fair and unique local content along with community engagement.
Skills in producing engaging contentdriven newscasts and digital content.
Strong social media skills including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook.
Organizational skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines.
Ability to calmly handle live breaking news situations and changing events.
Ability to work closely with other station department heads and fellow managers within the company.
