The Department of Corrections Division of Institutions is recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist Building/Facility/Construction Journey 1 for the Anchorage Correctional Center (ACC) located in Anchorage Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

This position under the direction of the Maintenance Foreman is responsible for maintaining and repairing the Anchorage Correctional Complexs infrastructure.


Duties include:

  • Skilled work in plumbing HVAC boiler and burner assembly maintenance as well as diagnostics and repairs for gasfired kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Basic fire suppression and alarm maintenance electrical and mechanical repairs on locking devices gates and door operators and installation or repair of pneumatic devices.
  • Surface preparation painting and maintaining security systems as well as doors windows floor coverings and fencing.


Independent work with minimal supervision is required to complete these tasks.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs installation uses repair and maintenance
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information. Uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations.
  • Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work sets priorities and determines resource requirements short or longterm goas and strategies to achieve them. Coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral except for promotions demotions transfers and emergency appointments.

This job class is part of a series of competencybased class specifications created for career areas within the Labor Trades and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area the core and specific competencies of the career area required work behaviors certifications and physical requirements.

Starting salary may be approved up to Step C $31.38 if criteria are met.


EDUCATION

If postsecondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill in the Education section of the application. CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS

Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.


FINGERPRINT NOTICE

DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT
