The Illinois School for the Visually Impaired is seeking to hire a Director of Student Life to develop policies and procedures and to direct dietary engineering housekeeping and residential services. The vision of the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired is to provide a quality comprehensive education and serve as a statewide resource to students in Illinois with visual impairments assisting them in becoming personally productive and selfsufficient citizens.
Serves as the Director of Student Life at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
Serves as fullline supervisor.
Serves as the school training coordinator in planning developing and implementing staff training workshops seminars and ongoing classes within the Student Life Program.
Collaborates with the Superintendent on fiveyear projections and maintenance schedules.
Serves as a member of the Admissions Review Committee and Executive Council reviewing admissions to ISVI and determining whether incoming students have medical issues or other issues that the residential staff need to be prepared for.
Maintains familiarity with and advises administrators concerning applicable laws and regulations relating to child abuse and neglect identification and reporting institutional health practices and labormanagement issues affecting childcare practices.
Serves as facility Title IX Informal Coordinator.
Serves as the School Superintendent in his/her absence assuming responsibility for the school when the Superintendent is away on business or otherwise absent.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with course work in education child psychology social work administration or a closely related field.
Requires four (4) years progressively responsible administrative experience in a residential school setting.
Three (3) years of professional experience working with the diverse needs of individuals who are blind or have low vision needs.
Three (3) years of professional experience in the administration of a residential program within a K12 educational program for individuals who are blind or have low vision needs.
Three (3) years of professional experience working with residential and/or educational programming ensuring compliance with applicable health safety education and residential childcare policies procedures and laws.
Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work providing guidance to subordinates recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements training staff and preparing and signing performance evaluations.
Three (3) years of professional experience communicating clearly and tactfully orally and/or in written form with a wide range of individuals such as state agency officials public families advocates internal and external stakeholders.
Three (3) years of professional experience evaluating programs and recommending policies and procedures for a public or private entity.
One (1) year of professional experience developing and managing a program budget.
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Requires the ability to work on an oncall basis including after normal business hours weekends and holidays.
This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 1509) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
