OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR
The Office of the Registrar provides administrative and coordination services in support of the UNB learning community. Services that we provide to students faculty and staff include admission academic advising timetabling and course set up academic room assignment final examinations coordination of graduations regulation and policy advice as well as reporting and information requests.

Standard Work Hours: Mon Fri 8:15 am 4:30 pm 36.25 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Flexibility required for weekend commitments.

Salary Range: $76626 $104433 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Registrar the Director of Academic Advising will lead all academic advising initiatives at UNB which will promote student success by empowering students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. This will play a crucial role in supporting all academic advisors across UNB leading training and programming efforts providing presentations and outreach to UNB faculties departments and for student recruitment and welcome events ensuring the delivery of consistent highquality advising services that align with the universitys commitment to student support and success.

  • Provide visionary leadership in developing a studentcentered culturally responsive and cohesive academic advising system across the university for both new and continuing students.
  • Lead any Managers of Academic Advising and a team of academic advisors to ensure effective student support while also offering leadership and guidance to other faculty and staff providing support or academic advising services that may not report directly to this role.
  • Identify allocate and coordinate resources to support the efficient planning implementation operationalization and sustainability of all academic advising services in faculties departments and schools utilizing appropriate methodologies.
  • Ensure that training and support developed for academic advisors align with best practices current technologies and research that fosters a resultsoriented academic advising model.
  • Review policies practices and academic regulations related to academic advising leading the development of training and professional development initiatives for academic advisors across the university.
  • Address complex or sensitive issues involving students collaborating with appropriate staff and faculty to leverage their expertise in resolving these matters.
  • Develop and/or present workshops or seminars to enhance and support student success.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for student retention that leverage effective academic advising practices.
  • Lead the creation of both short and longterm support initiatives for students facing academic challenges.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of academic advising practices that prioritize equity diversity and inclusion.
  • Spearhead efforts to develop targeted strategies that support academically atrisk students in achieving their academic goals.
  • Coordinate academic advising initiatives with other university units including Student Affairs and Services the Registrars Offices Recruitment and faculties.
  • Collaborate closely with the Registrars Offices to navigate UNBs degree audit software ensuring students receive accurate and timely information regarding their degree requirements.
  • Analyze monitor and report on data related to student academic persistence engagement and graduation rates.
  • Oversee financial budgets and monitor expenditures ensuring that accurate and accountable documentation is maintained.
  • Collaborate with relevant offices to develop proposals and submissions for funding opportunities as appropriate.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities or special projects as required.
  • Maintain a positive work environment by coordinating schedules with other staff and faculty communicating regularly with faculty and staff regarding projects and providing and soliciting assistance as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in postsecondary education with a preference for roles related to academic advising/coaching student success services or other relevant areas of student affairs and services.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in managing leading and supervising staff effectively.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proven track record of working sensitively and effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance processes implement new projects or programs and achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in academic advising procedures policies and technology systems.

Additional Strengths

  • Masters degree or equivalent in a relevant area would be preferred.
  • Experience in developing studentcentered programming is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional relationshipbuilding diplomacy and communication skills enabling effective collaboration with faculty staff and administration.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft O365.
  • Detailoriented and able to work within university regulations and privacy laws.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
