About us:

Aeva is building the next generation of sensing and perception for autonomous vehicles and beyond. With its unique ability to measure instantaneous velocity for each pixel longrange performance at high resolutions while being free from LiDAR or sunlight interference Aevas 4D LiDAR is built from the ground up at silicon photonics scale for massmarket applications.

Role Overview:

Aeva is looking to bring on an Optical Engineer Intern to join our team for the summer (1012 weeks). This internship offers handson experience in various aspects of optical engineering providing a valuable opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to realworld projects. The intern will contribute to the design development and testing of complex optical subcomponents and systems used within Aevas LiDAR coherent sensing system.

What youll do:

Design and analyze optical systems including developing optical architectures evaluating tolerances and tradeoffs analysis.
Perform sequential and nonsequential simulations of optical systems.
Direct specification development for detailed drawings of optical components.
Test and characterize the LiDAR sensor and optical subsystems using tabletop experimental set ups and dedicated testing facilities.

What youll have:

Currently pursuing a degree in optical engineering physics or a related field with 3 years completed
Experience in optical systems design
Ability to model and script in ZEMAX Code V Fred or similar
Experience in tolerance analysis straylight and scattering analysis
Handson laboratory skills in setting up testing validating and troubleshooting optical fiber optic and optomechanical subsystems

$30 $40 an hour

Salary pay ranges are determined by role level and location. Within the range the successful candidates starting base pay will be determined based on factors including jobrelated skills experience certifications qualifications relevant education or training and market conditions. These ranges are subject to change in the future.
