Detailed Description:

Under the guidance of the Director Gender Identity Resources and collaborative direction of the CoDirectors the Associate Director engages the University of San Diego Community in exploring and affirming the unique intersections of each persons identities. The Associate Director is responsible for the ongoing development administration and coordination of services for students by affirming the dignity of every person and striving to create a culture of respect and inclusivity with a focus on supporting the LGBTQ Community. The Associate Director serves as a liaison and knowledge expert to the campus community regarding issues of inclusive excellence and education; serves as an advocate for underrepresented and underserved groups with an emphasis on the LGBTQ Community; and works to create an inclusive campus environment where all students feel welcomed. Periodically this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division/campus projects outside the scope of their daytoday activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Provide leadership daytoday direction and longrange planning in the administrative oversight of the LGBTQ & Allies Commons.
  • Ensure the LGBTQ & Allies Commons functions as a welcoming and safe space to retain and support LGBTQ students.
  • Manage programming budget for LGBTQ & Allies Commons.
  • Assists the CoDirectors with the daytoday operations of the Commons.
  • Develop and sustain collaborative partnerships with campus units to achieve the Commons purpose and goals and promotes the Commons services programs and resources.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Commons and various oncampus departments.
  • Participate on relevant oncampus meetings and committees to enhance inclusive excellence and education efforts.
  • Conduct constituency needs assessments formulates recommendations and implements new programs and services in alignment with Division of Student Affairs Thriving Students Model to increase sense of belonging for LGBTQ students.
  • Supports recruitment and retention efforts of LGBTQ students and other marginalized groups identified as at risk.
  • Assist in the strategic planning processes of the Commons and subsequent implementation and evaluation.
  • Attend joint meetings and retreats.
  • Contribute to or lead additional division/campus projects outside of typical duties to help further accomplish student or organizational goals. Additional assignments may be seasonal ad hoc or ongoing depending on the project.

Identity Development

  • Develop implement coordinate and evaluate programs and initiatives that educate the campus community around issues of inclusive excellence and education with an emphasis on gender and sexual identities ensuring alignment with the Divisions Thriving Students Model.
  • Oversee the Rainbow Educator and Safe Space Allies Programs including facilitator recruitment training and professional development. Develop intentional program content supporting both identity specific and intersectional options. Evaluate programs for effectiveness and alignment with learning outcomes.
  • Create opportunities for students to connect become involved on and off campus and develop tangible skills for students to thrive at USD.
  • Support inclusive excellence and education programming for student leader training as well as fall and spring orientations.

Advisement and Supervision

  • May supervise up to one graduate assistant and 35 student workers.
  • Advise students on academic and personal needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the campus constituents focused on student success and retention to collaboratively advise students.
  • Provide shared oversight with the other Commons staff for integrated and intentional leadership and identity development across The Commons including training and development of graduate assistants and student staff/interns/coordinators.
  • Oversee the Rainbow Educator Advisory Team and Undergraduate Rainbow Educator Leadership Team and continually develops and shapes the vision for the future.
  • Attend events hosted by The Commons including nights and weekends.
  • Provide support and leadership development to student organizations and leaders affiliated with The Commons.

Other

  • Assumes responsibility for the Commons in absence of the CoDirectors.
  • Serves on committees and performs other related duties as required.
  • Contribute to or lead additional division/campus projects outside of typical duties to help further accomplish student or organizational goals. Additional assignments may be seasonal ad hoc or ongoing depending on the project.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings as needed.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree required.
  • Two years of professional experience in Student Affairs or DEI work which may include
    graduate experience (e.g. assistantship/internship/practicum).
  • A Bachelors degree and one additional year of directly related professional work
    experience may substitute for Masters degree.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DEI work and experience working effectively with diverse
    populations with a particular emphasis on the LGBTQ population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in student affairs administration or related area (e.g. Counseling StudentDevelopment Gender Equity Higher Education)
  • Two years professional experience in Student Affairs or DEI work with a particular emphasison the LGBTQ population through an antiracist lens.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DEI work and experience working effectively with diverse
    populations with a particular emphasis on the LGBTQ population.
  • Experience related to supervision and advising of peer educators undergraduate/graduatestudent employees or professional staff.
