Join our Data Collection Bureau

Support the Districts Data Collection Bureau using your surveying expertise. The Field Technician will be responsible for recording measurements for topographicgeodetic cadastral and hydrographic surveys retracement of boundary lines horizontal and vertical controlconstruction layout determining elevations and other similar surveying projects.This opportunity offers an ability to make an impact on the organization and provides flexibility and a true worklife balance.     Starting Compensation:

    Field Technician 1: $31616.00 $38374.12
    Field Technician 2: $35859.20 $43524.67
    Field Technician 3: $38188.00 $46354.93
    Field Technician 4: $43347.20 $52600.00

    The starting salary ranges are included for the FieldTechnicianprofile which reflects the minimum to approximately 38.9% of the respective pay grades. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.

    Essential Functions

    Field Technician 13

    • Measures land survey data using electronic and other survey instruments including total stations levels geodetic positioning systems etc.; Participates in traversing differential leveling boundary retracement hydrographic topographic collection geodetic control surveys etc.; Operates data collectors records notes and sketches in a field book and makes necessary calculations for checking raw data.
    • Operates vehicles and boats land surveying equipment and instruments digital theodolites and levels GPS sensors and other tools and equipment as necessary. Inspects cleans and maintains survey and safety equipment tools and vehicles as required. Transports sets up and retrieves survey equipment.
    • Coordinate work with District Land Survey staff effective communications with staff and understanding project objectives. Attend department meetings contact with land owners and the public as needed.
    • Uses electronic and other survey instruments including total stations levels geodetic positioning systems etc.; Participates in traversing differential leveling boundary retracement hydrographic topographic collection geodetic control surveys etc.; Operates data collectors records sketches in a field book and makes necessary calculations for checking raw and downloading pre and post field work data.
    • Coordinate all work with District Land Survey staff effective communications with staff and understanding project objectives.
    • Attend department and project kickoff meetings contact with land owners and the public as needed.

    Field Technician4

    • Supervises a land survey crew involved in recording measurements for topographicgeodetic cadastral and hydrographic surveys recovery and retracement of boundary lines horizontal and vertical controlconstruction layout determining elevations and other similar surveying projects.
    • Records notations andsketches in a field book or data collector of measurements makes required calculations acquires photographic evidence using an electronic tablet and submits allinformation obtained during the assigned survey projects for review and post processing.
    • Supervises the operation of surveying instruments and equipment such as Global Positioning Satellite/GNSS receivers cellular and radio modems data collectors total stations automatic and digital levels etc. to determine geospatial positions; performs the duties of other crew members as necessary.
    • Promotes and oversees operational safety methods and procedures and ensures the correct and safe use of equipment and tools.
    • Assigns reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate members of the crew; trains them; participates in the hiring of new crew employees.
    • Coordinate all work with District Land Survey staff effective communications with staff and understanding project objectives.
    • Attend department meetings contact with land owners and the public as needed

    Working Conditions

    Work is divided between office and field environments. Fieldwork is frequently conducted under adverse weather conditions and may involve remote undeveloped and/or isolated sites.

    Work may be conducted on or around open water wetlands or marshes. Must be able to frequently bend and squat with occasional requirement to climb or swim. Must be able to operate a District vehicle with attached equipment for two hours or more at a time.

    May work 10hour shifts and be required to sit for up to 5 hours and/or stand for up to 3 hours. Must be able to frequently lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift between 10 and 50 pounds. Must be able to carry up to carry up to 10 pounds frequently and carry between 10 and 50 pounds occasionally.

    Employee may be subject to callin outside of regularly scheduled work hours or required to be on call including on nights weekends or holidays to respond to emergency management activities or other incidents requiring rapid response in support of District operations.

    Required Credentials for Survey Crew Technician

    Field Technician1

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • Valid drivers license

    Field Technician2

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year related work experience
    • Valid drivers license

    Field Technician3

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent and three (3) years related work experience
    • Valid drivers license

    Field Technician4

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent and four (4) years related work experience
    • Valid drivers license

    Preferred Credentials for Survey Crew Technician

    • Coursework in geometry trigonometry or technical land surveying is preferred.
    • National Society of Professional Surveyors Certified Survey Technician Program. Airboat Operator Certification FDOT M.O.T. Certification

    Application Process

    The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. All applicants are required to complete in full the District employment application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A resume will not be considered as a substitute for the required District application for the purpose of qualification. Applicants who are within 30 days of graduation if selected are not allowed to start until all minimum qualifications are met.

    Additional Details

    This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week Monday to Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM(10hour days) out of the Brooksville FL office.

    Travel Required

    travel using a District vehicle within Districts coverage area.
