To ensure a safe manufacturing environment our Occupational Health and Safety Engineering team plays a crucial role in hazard prevention conducting safety audits providing training and implementing risk mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

What youll do...

  • Support daily production and maintenance activities as one of the safety subject matter experts by providing clear direction on all matters related to safe work practices.
  • Ensure the facility has an effective Emergency Response Plan and be knowledgeable about the plan.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant safety programs by conducting daily and focused audits as necessary.
  • Drive the 38element Safety Operating System (SOS) at the facility and Lead SOS champions to take ownership of their respective elements.
  • Facilitate the plants daily SOS and monthly Safety Process Review Board meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with plant leadership when identifying gaps and sharing positive learnings.
  • Assist departments in completing all injury nearmiss and property damage investigations as needed. Lead all serious injury and/or significant incident investigations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for risk assessments on all equipment and processes including completing safety reviews and buyoffs.
  • Collaborate with the UAW Health and Safety Representative and plant leadership to achieve objectives effectively.
  • Support and actively participate with the Training Department to manage and ensure the completion of required safety training courses.
  • Conduct presentations and/or lead safety discussions during operating committee meetings including the monthly Plant Safety Process Review Board meeting.
  • Work onsite in a rotating shift environment that includes weekends and night


Qualifications

Youll have...

The minimum requirements we seek:

Educational Background:

  • A bachelors degree in occupational safety management safety engineering or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 2 or more years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment including internships and coop experiences.
  • Experience working with safety standards and regulations such as OSHA NFPA and ANSI.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint Excel Webex Microsoft Teams Outlook and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of safety management systems and risk assessment tools.

Influencing Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to guide and influence all levels of an organization.

Analytical Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough investigations and risk assessments

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to effectively communicate safety protocols and procedures to employees at all levels.
  • Experience leading safety training sessions and safety committee meetings.

Regulatory Knowledge:

  • Understanding of relevant external safety standards such as OSHA NFPA ANSI etc.
  • Familiarity with internal safety standards specific to the organization such as FAS08 and VOSS standards.

Union Experience:

  • Experience working with unions such as the UAW can be advantageous in certain environments

Even better you may have...

  • Masters Degree
  • Broad Health and Safety Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry
  • Extensive knowledge of state/national OHS laws NFAP ANSI etc.
  • Operational knowledge of corporate safety programs
  • Certification or degree in OHS or related field

This position is a salary grade 7.
