The Traffic Systems Operations Unit (TSOU) is a Unit in the Mobility and Safety Division which is part of the Division of Highways. The Signal System Timing and Operations (SSTO) Section of the TSOU is responsible for optimizing new and existing (retime) existing signal systems as well as establishing policies procedures practices and standards for signal system timing across the State.

Applicant is expected to have the ability to work cooperatively in collaboration with diverse stakeholders. Applicant must be able to legally operate a state vehicle for frequent travel statewide with occasional overnight travel. Working toward registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina is desirable. Work requires ability to safely and frequently travel long distances to conduct outdoor day and night field investigations through the full range of live traffic environmental and terrain conditions.
Management Preferences:
Preference will be given to an individual licensed as a Professional Engineer in NC.

Bachelors degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
