What youll be doing
Reporting to the VP Business Controls the Senior Director Business Controls is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to a team of risk professionals. This role supports the following LOBs: Private Wealth and Investors Edge Private Banking Deposits & Payments and Simplii. The Senior Director provides business compliance and control advisory services to senior management and business groups and stewardship of and governance over operational risk and controls. Working in close collaboration with senior leaders across the SBUs and infrastructure groups leads and directs the management of control design control programs/frameworks control testing deficiency management operational risk policies/procedures & initiatives across their line of business portfolio. This role reviews both the internal and external landscapes coupled with trends and issues in the businesses to identify items that will minimize risk of financial and operational loss.

How youll succeed
Governance Ensuring effective governance processes and controls are in place and that policies are adhered to and that the risk management and control framework is rigorous and consistent with CIBCs risk appetite. This includes keeping abreast of and interpreting Corporatewide policies industry and legislative requirements/ best practices and monitoring regulatory changes in order to develop manage and execute enhancements to operational risk and business continuity programs. Proactively alerting to the emergence of operational risk issues and make informed decisions to address potential nonconformity with key governance policies/procedures and/or acceptable risk limits.
Strategic Leadership Shape and influence business strategies and strategic planning to ensure optimization of the control framework while considering impacts to the employees and clients. Develop solutions that address identified process gaps increasing regulatory requirements or internal requirements that optimize compliance to regulatory requirements and the resultant impact to the frontline and our clients. Continuously review and evolve our risk detection and mitigation capabilities in a landscape of increasing regulatory scrutiny evolving audit methodologies and a continued focus in line with CIBCs Risk Appetite Statement. Oversee the design review and approval of all changes to key controls nonkey and KAR duty control testing programs; Sponsoring implementation of remediation plans for targeted control gaps or special projects; leading the development of effective governance policies and procedures.
Relationship Building Providing leadership and effective management to influence employee engagement and commitment to the organization to the team and to their job by cultivating and managing a high performing team to deliver on and support the mandate.
People Leadership Setting appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals roles support the achievement of the business units priorities and CIBCs overall goals. Managing performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
Who you are
You can demonstrate experience. 10 years in a senior governance business controls risk compliance and/or audit function within the financial services industry with extensive knowledge and experience in risk management principles practices policies and procedures including audit and business controls.
