About the Role
The Mnogin Greenhouse Supervisor & Head Grower will be responsible for the oversight of Nipissing
First Nations yearround indoor greenhouse producing fresh lettuce leafy greens and herbs for the
local community and commercial customers. This role is responsible for leading two (2) fulltime
employees (Systems Operators) and ensuring all operating tasks are completed while ensuring we
deliver the highestquality products to our community members and customers.
An ideal candidate will be an experienced supervisor of a controlled environment production
facility.
About Mnogin Greenhouse
Mnogin means Grow Well in Nbisiing Nishnaabemwin Nipissing First Nations Ojibway dialect. The
Mnogin Greenhouse addresses the important need of providing healthier and better food security for
NFN members. Developing the capacity to grow our own fresh produce yearround is central to meeting
our food security needs now and protecting ourselves from future food shortages especially during our
more vulnerable winter months.
The project consists of three (3) containerized growing units and one (1) packing unit to prepare and
package produce for distribution. The Mnogin Greenhouse yields up to 10000 pounds annually of fresh
high quality produce of all kinds.

What youll do in the role
Maintain the overall health of the greenhouse including the growing equipment plants and
ensuring maintenance is completed in a timely fashion
Ensure standard operating procedures are followed including food safety Integrated Pest
Management maintenance and daytoday operational procedures
Aid in harvesting cleaning and packaging of produce
Provide expertise as required to troubleshoot any issues that may arise including of a
mechanical or horticultural nature
Coordinate all activities and events with respect to the system
Manage inventory to ensure the demand for food supply is available and accessible to
Nipissing First Nation members program and events as well as external customers
Promote food production and healthy eating habits by setting up booths at different functions
that may include but are not limited to community events health fairs schools and daycares
Provide expertise and coaching to the Systems Operators to ensure they are equipped to
succeed in their roles and that they are following good agricultural practices
Participate in training technical and management. Ensure the Systems Operators participate
in the provided hydroponic training and support them in their learning journey
Maintain a record of operations including sales harvest data and trends that will influence
future food production

What you bring to the table
Respect for Indigenous culture and willingness to learn Ojibway
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in horticultural or controlled environment
operations
Certificate or degree in agriculture horticulture or related field
Proven track record of working effectively in teams to ensure operational success of an indoor
growing environment
Comfortable with technology such as Google & Microsoft Office suites
Clear effective communicator who has a passion for supporting new entrylevel hydroponic
technicians
Ability to work in a fastpaced work environment showing adaptability and resiliency through
unforeseen challenges
Ability to be accountable to multiple projects at once and prioritize tasks accordingly
Selfstarter capable of driving projects with minimal oversight
Ability to build and manage relationships and be the lead of the project
Good leadership skills and customer relationship management skills
Must be able to legally work in Canada
A valid drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle is required
Assets
Experience managing and leading teams is an asset
Experience with leafy green or hydroponic production
Experience managing / implementing an Integrated Pest Management program
