Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to the Global Tech Center Warren MI three times per week at minimum.

The Role

The Cost Engineer is responsible for creating analyzing and validating component material costs and targets. Working within the Product Program Cost Optimization (PPCO) team the Cost Engineer will generate detailed material cost estimates including both piece price and production tooling estimations. Collaboration with key internal crossfunctional peers is essential. The selected candidate will work closely with the product engineering team purchasing and supply chain team vehicle program team global joint venture partners in China and external component suppliers.

What Youll Do

  • Analyze organize and understand large amounts of data.

  • Comprehend manufacturing processes including regional differences in manufacturing assumptions.

  • Use project plans labor requirements and other factors to estimate project costs.

  • Partner actively with the internal GPSC purchasing team to provide fair yet competitive component costs for GM.

  • Assimilate large amounts of cost data and communicate information efficiently to the larger GM team.

  • Occasionally travel to supplier facilities for enhanced costing collaboration and support.

  • Support assigned GM SMT/PMT from a tooling and piece price perspective.

  • Solve unique and sometimes complex problems using datadriven analysis to identify solutions establish next steps and manage open items.

  • Ability to lead change resolve conflicts and influence without direct authority.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelors Degree

  • 2 years of experience in cost estimating manufacturing product design engineering automotive purchasing or related

  • Proficiency in IT systems or advanced Excel skills

  • Experience with spreadsheets estimating pricing models and cost management tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to add value and optimize costs.

  • Knowledge of various manufacturing/automotive processes and components with the ability to evaluate and analyze associated costs.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and complexity.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with global team members and crossfunctional peers.

  • Ability to use or learn GMCO$T (internal GM cost estimating software)

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Masters degree in Technical Management or Engineering is a plus.

  • Experience in manufacturing product design / engineering or purchasing.

  • Experience at automotive OEMs or other product manufacturing.

  • A desire to learn details of automotive components manufacturing and financial cost drivers.

  • Ability to gather insights from data.

  • Experience estimating Propulsion parts Forging Casting Machining as well as painted and chromed plastics
