Job Description
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for washing dishes pots etc. and ensuring the cleanliness of the culinary area.
The Kitchen Steward:
- Works as a member of a dishwashing crew ensuring soiled items are placed in proper racks or containers which carry them through a dishwashing machine.
- Inspects removes and properly stores all clean items from the dishwashing machine.
- Washes steam kettles tilt fryers and food preparation equipment too large to put in dishwashing machines.
- Supplies dishware to food preparation stations as needed; removes soiled dishware and cooking equipment from food preparation stations.
- Keeps work area (floor machine shelving carts etc.) clean at all times.
- Performs miscellaneous duties such as polishing silver working in store room and preparing for banquets special events etc. as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Ability to work in an environment that is subject to varying levels of cold heat noise and vibration; the kitchen steward is subject to hazards such as wet floors; proper precautions are taken.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently move around work area.
- Ability to stand for majority of shift.
- Must be able to inspect all work performed.
- Must be able to reach bend squat and carry loads of up to 50 pounds as well as push/pull loads of up to 100 pounds so as to be able to restock all items as needed.
- Must be able to sort all silverware as needed.
- Must be able to operate machines and equipment used but not limited to are all dishwashing equipment after proper training.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
The skills necessary for this position are typically acquired through two months of onthejob training or through related experience.
