Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Translators / Interpreters. Responsible for facilitating crosscultural communication through the process of converting one language into a different language to ensure meaningful and accurate communication between two parties who do not speak the same language.
DUTIES:
- Provides consecutive interpretation services at oneonone or small group meetings.
- Provides simultaneous interpretation service at larger meetings or when requested at small group meetings.
- Sight translates documents upon request during meetings.
- Makes phone calls to families who speak languages other than English.
- Maintains interpreter ethics at all times.
- Researches relevant issues and technical terms as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate;
- Outstanding customer service.
- Must be able to travel to different schools around the county.
- Excellent listening verbal and written language skills for both English and another language.
- Ability to accurately interpret conversation and presentation.
- Knowledge of advanced grammar and usage in both languages.
- Knowledge of school system terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles levels of skill and experience to support their childs education experience.
- Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to response to the needs of diverse learners.
- Ability to employ business technology tools.
Please note that translators/interpreter hours will vary and be on an as needed basis.
