PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Establish and maintain strength and conditioning programs for all sports with the three major goals of improving athletic performance reducing athletic injuries and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements required in one of the following: Kinesiology Biology or Human Anatomy preferred
- Current first aid certification automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate
- USAW Level 1 (USA Weightlifting)
- Credentials and membership to NSCA Certified (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) preferred
- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Valid Texas Class B or A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with endorsements for school bus driver. Safe driving record as verified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility) preferred
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00 paid by the employee.
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Effectiveness and proficiency in the design and teaching of strength training and conditioning theory and technique.
- Knowledge and ability to teach speed agility and flexibility training.
- Understanding the basic nutritional guidelines as they pertain to athletic development.
- Ability to motivate both male and female studentathletes.
- Ability to identify strengths and deficiencies in studentathletes technical and physical and the ability to design individual workouts to address those issues to maximize performance.
- Ability to instruct coaches and others within a high school athletic department
- Leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with high school athletes.
- Excellent verbal written and organizational skills.
- Ability to interact with diverse groups.
- Ability to work with studentathletes to develop and monitor programs during school vacations.
Experience:
- Minimum of two 2 years successful as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at High School College or Professional Level
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Program Development
- Devise mesocycle training programs according to sound scientific principles
- Supervise training sessions evaluate athletes and maintain athlete records
- Meet regularly with sport coaches to determine what the athletes need to work on
- Consult with the athletic training staff if working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation
- Responsible for maintaining the weight room
- Responsible for establishing policies plans and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility
- Provide proper instruction supervision and motivation to all studentathletes.
- Collaborate with head coaches to incorporate desired and specific goals into the overall strength and conditioning plan.
- Provide testing training and progress reports to coaches.
- Assist with administrative and budget aspects of the strength and conditioning program.
- Teach and demonstrate proper lifting techniques for various forms of strength training.
- Teach and advise studentathletes on proper methods of rest and recovery.
Middle School Compliance
- Coordinate a cocurricular novice level program exposure for grades 68 that serves as a strength and conditioning introduction reflecting researchdriven practices.
- Responsible for design of Middle School Fundamentals training program and check to monitor compliance.
Summer Strength and Conditioning
- Plans organizes and directs summer strength and conditioning for high school athletes.
Recruitment and Promotion
- Promotes multisport participation and attends a variety of sports events in the district
- Promotes academic excellence for all studentathletes
- Promotes a positive image of the total athletic program in the community and on each campus
Meetings
- Attend coachs inservice and meetings as called
- Attend clinics and workshops for professional development
Other
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educators Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision and evaluation of District personnel is not a requirement of this position; however the supervision of students is required. Direct the work of instructional aide(s).
