Job Summary:The Executive Director of Technology serves as the districts chief technology officer and is responsible for providing leadership strategic planning and vision in the use of information technology for the Districts operations and support. This position will ensure that technology supports the Districts mission of excellence in education of operational efficiency and equitable access to digital resources. The Executive Director oversees all aspects of instructional and administrative technology cybersecurity and emerging technology initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.

  1. Serves as a member of the Executive Cabinet and advises the Superintendent and School Board on technologyrelated initiatives.
  2. Leads with a commitment to fair and equitable technology access for all students families and staff.
  3. Leads the development and implementation of a districtwide technology vision aligned with educational and operational goals.
  4. Establishes a department climate focused on service and support for future current and former employees.
  5. Identifies plans and establishes goals objectives and direction of district technology management programs and systems. Monitors changing needs and challenges; recommends and implements necessary actions to meet new challenges.
  6. Establishes short and longterm technology plans that support teaching learning and district administration.
  7. Establishes district policies and procedures for technology use security and ethical standards.
  8. Oversees the implementation of cybersecurity best practices to safeguard district systems and data; directs disaster recovery and business continuity planning related to technology systems.
  9. Collaborates with district leadership school administrators and educators to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  10. Provides guidance on emerging educational technologies and digital learning strategies.
  11. Supervises the Network Operations Manager User Services Manager and the Information Systems team.
  12. Coordinates with curriculum leaders to align technology with instructional priorities and student learning outcomes.
  13. Develops and manages the districts technology budget in alignment with district priorities and initiatives.
  14. Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements for technologyrelated programs and as related to student and staff data privacy.
  15. Represents the district in various professional organizations; presents information to small and large groups; and chairs committees as requested.
  16. Performs related duties consistent with the job description and employee assignment.

Reporting Relationship:Reports to the Deputy Superintendent.

Working Conditions:Works in an office environment; maintains confidential information; required to meet inflexible deadlines; experiences interruptions from telephone and office visitors; required to deal with distraught or angry people; requires substantial visual concentration on detail dexterity and precision; requires occasional prolonged exposure to visual display terminal; required to attend meetings beyond normal working hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible management experience in technology management and leadership.
  • Experience leading largescale technology initiatives and managing enterpriselevel technology systems.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning technology implementation and cybersecurity oversight.
  • Strong background in data governance analytics and compliance with student data privacy laws.
  • Experience supervising teams across multiple technology domains including IT Infrastructure Educational Technology Student Information Systems and Data Analytics.
  • Strong leadership communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to align technology initiatives with district educational and operational priorities.
  • Ability to manage budgets contracts and technology procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to educational technology systems and student data privacy.
  • Masters degree or equivalent in assigned or closely related areas of study preferred.

Allowable Substitution

  • Alternative combinations of education and experience will be evaluated for comparability.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid WA State drivers license and appropriate insurance required.
  • Relevant IT or leadership certifications preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills understanding of clientcentered support and services.
  • Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively.
  • Ability to organize work set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to remain calm deliberate and tactful in stressful and emotional situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability


Salary:202425 NonRepresented Staff Executive Level (NEL) Salary Schedule(Level I); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Exempt.


Work Year: 12 month position 260 days per year 8.0 hours per day.

Benefits: Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package for eligible positions. Generally you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31.
