Class Title:Reading SpecialistDepartment:SchoolClassification:Teacher 183 daysImmediate Supervisor:Principal and/or DesigneeCLASS DESCRIPTIONUnder the direction of the Principal the Reading Specialist shall assist in carrying out his/her DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Analyze schoolwide and studentlevel reading data to identify trends gaps and areas of with teachers and administrators to interpret data and make informed decisions about progress and track the effectiveness of reading interventions using datadriven on student progress and intervention outcomes to administrators and parents as neededProvide oneonone and smallgroup reading interventions for studentsImplement evidencebased reading intervention programsDevelop and maintain personalized literacy plans for students requiring reading interventionCollaborate with classroom teachers to ensure alignment between interventions and classroom instructionOversee reading intervention platform(s) ensuring it is functioning effectively and used consistently by students and staffProvide training and support to teachers on the use of the platform(s) to track student progress and deliver personalized reading interventionsReview and adjust the use of the platform(s) based on data insights and student needsCollaborate with classroom teachers special education staff and administrators to support students literacy developmentProvide professional development for teachers on best practices in literacy instruction data analysis and effective reading interventionsParticipate in meetings with parents administrators and other stakeholders to discuss student progress and intervention outcomesParticipate in schoolwide initiatives to promote literacy and foster a culture of readingKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to assess and analyze student data to guide intervention understanding of reading development and best practices for supporting struggling with various reading intervention platforms and to design and implement targeted reading to fostering a positive and inclusive learning QUALIFICATIONS:Education and ExperienceReading Specialist DegreeProficiency level training in the Science of ReadingTraining in Wilson Reading System or Orton Gillgham preferredExcellent oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills and problem solving skillsStrong presentation and facilitation skillsPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
